"Scarface has given fans a promising update on his health after undergoing open heart surgery.
The Geto Boys legend reflected on his recent health issues in an Instagram post on Tuesday (October 8), expressing his gratitude for making a full recovery while revealing the surgery “could’ve [gone] either way.”
“6wks ago I underwent open heart surgery, to be upright and smiling today shows you that God aint nothing to play with,” he wrote alongside a photo of him looking both happy and dapper at the Grandmaster Awards in Las Vegas this past weekend, where he and the Paid in Full Foundation honored fellow Hip Hop pioneers Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz and Roxanne Shanté.
Face Mob added: “Again I say, I’m grateful, it could’ve went either way, yet I’m still alive.”
Scarface alerted fans to his health scare in August, posting a photo on Instagram of him lying in a hospital bed with a number of tubes and wires attached to his body.
The 53-year-old didn’t disclose what caused him to be hospitalized, only writing in the caption: “Ouch… [three prayer hands emojis] Grateful.”
The badge on the medical professional tending to Face in the photo indicated that he was in the ICU at one of Houston Methodist Hospital’s many facilities across the city.
His post prompted comments of support from a number of rap peers, including fellow Houstonian Slim Thug, E-40, DJ Premier, Twista, Sleepy Brown, KXNG Crooked, Mannie Fresh and DJ Quik.
Scarface was previously hospitalized in 2021 following a kidney transplant. The donor wasn’t just anyone, either — it was his son Chris Jordan, who stepped up for his father and gave up one of his kidneys.
The Houston rap legend later jumped on Instagram Live and praised his son (who was in the same room) for the selfless act, albeit with a healthy dose of humor.
“My son saved my life and I can’t say enough about him,” he said. “That boy saved my life man. And I love him so much. But I always said that shyt, though. He’s the best son a guy could have. Chris, you ain’t shyt [laughs]. Don’t make me laugh, Chris. C’mon dawg.”
Looking at his son, he added: “I’m so proud of you. I love you too much. You saved my muthafukkin’ life. You low down muthafukka. You’re selfish. Won’t let a n-gga die. That n-gga will not let me die [laughs]. I ain’t gonna tear up in here in front of all these people on Instagram Live.”
