ESPN will be a huge money loser if costs don't drop. From their earnings report for Fiscal Year 2016, Disney said they were moving more resources from Disney channel and other cable resources to Freeform.

So looks like Disney's corporate plan is to divest itself from reliance on ESPN heavily
