the lucky thing for him is that
1. they were rested before this series
2. they're not pitching too much so far in these games individually.
3. they have a travel day, so these guys will be ready for Game 3.
That said, Boone in an 8-1 game could afford to let Tanaka pitch one more inning. He's paranoid about those third time around the lineup numbers.

Boone got 0 "feel for the game" in his managing repertoire...it's all what the numbers say with him which isn't bad but sometimes, you just gotta let your eyes tell you what to do in a situation.
I'm a believer in that you let the starter go until he reaches 120 pitches, wants to come out, or clearly is running on empty/doesn't have it

. 90-100 is when you start talking to him. Leaving a guy in for 120 is asking for trouble with most pitchers.
. To put this in perspective curt schilling and John Smoltz ERA in the postseason is 2.23 and 2.67
