So happy for him. I’m still basking in that post-SB excitement, so keep that in mind when I say this:
Hurts took an ungodly amount of shyt from both the media and his own fanbase simply because the Eagles were good enough to win without him putting up 270+ yards and 3 passing TDs every week. Never mind that football is a team sport and you’re supposed to have good teammates. Never mind that Hurts played efficient football most of the time and avoided negative, game-losing plays. Never mind that Hurts’s presence opened the run game for Saquon Barkley and helped Barkley to have his 2000 rushing yard performance.
The NFCCG and the Super Bowl both showed that, when he needs to, Jalen can sling the ball. He faced the same defense, defensive coordinator, and exotic blitzing attack that stymied Josh Allen and beat it. He outperformed Jayden Daniels and Patrick Mahomes in back-to-back weeks, on the biggest stages. He did the latter with Barkley being a nonfactor in the running game. Meanwhile, the national media spent all season jerking off Sam Darnold for 4000+ passing yards, only for him to fall apart the minute he got hit with any adversity.
I know Hurts will never get his credit from the national media, but I hope this SB win can get certain Eagles fans to back off at least. All season people questioned if the Eagles could win a title with Jalen Hurts playing the way he does. Well, now we know that they can.
