It's easier to do with a sport europe/africa is already watching and enjoying.

Creating a whole sports culture for them from scratch is possible but it's more work. Basketball would be basically plug and play globally.
The NBA just gave ownership stake to the players. The NBA just is too big. The NFL is too ignorant. They are the easily of all of the big four sports to fukk up.

They strongly depend of white supremacy to get shyt down. All you gotta do is setup a North American league with a team in Cuba, PR, and Jamaica. Pay players fully guaranteed deals and give them sweet ass retirement packages like a 1 mil every year for 3+ vets as well as top tier health insurance and there asses is outta the NFL, asap. The NFL got the legacy but LIV showed you, the Saudis can and will fukk you up

Yeah and not to mention the Saudi's could use their deep pockets to drag the NFL into courts over anti-trust if NFL tries to sabotage their league.

True but it would be a lot harder to get top NBA players.

I'm not arguing that it wouldn't be easier to do the NFL than the NBA financially or logistically.

I'm arguing that the impact wouldn't be felt the same way across the world, and I think they are aiming more for the global audience. It would take 20 years or more for europe/africa to embrace it even if it was succeasful. There's not even an ecosystem or pathway to becoming an american football player in these countries, LIV football would be selling americans as the faces of it to the entire world for decades until they start seeing an influx of little boys in turkey or italy deciding that they want to be a QB instead of a point guard or striker

The Saudis deciding to pump money into the XFL/USFL feels like the only realistic scenario for them and football, and even that's a longshot.

It would definitely be a worst case scenario for the NFL. I don't think any high profile QBs would jump but the Lamar negotiation would've been completely different. Someone like Bijan Robinson would be crazy to turn down a 4/80m offer from them vs the 4/20m he got as the 8th overall pick. Saquan and Jacobs would both either be extended by now or bailed already.

The NFL is fukked up and it's still a vastly better option morally than getting into bed with the fukking Saudis. fukk them

I'm not even remotely sure how anyone that knows anything about them would want there to be a LIV football league
The mental gymnastics people here do about us kissing the ass of an absolute monarchy (not to mention them being the guys who did the 9/11 attacks, which we still haven’t gotten over despite destroying multiple countries who had nothing to do with it) when ostensibly our whole existence as a nation is supposed to be a giant middle finger to the very concept of monarchy in every conceivable way. The list of groups in lower moral standing than the nfl is a short list, but these guys are so much worse. Talk about selling your soul to the devil.

The same NFL with owners that blackballed NFL players for peacefully protesting police genocide against Black Americans? The same NFL that used claims harkening scientific racism that Black players had smaller brains to downplay brain injuries from playing football? And do you take transportation? If so, you're supporting the Saudis. No doubt they've done horrible things but America was built on way worse.

Let me know when the NFL commits a genocide and murdering journalists on other people's soil :heh: . What are we even doing here?

The NFL is subsidized by the US government via tax loopholes and exemptions. Has the US government supported autocratic regimes to further its agenda?

I think the XFL/USFL doesn't make sense for them because it's too regional. They'd be targeting both sides of the hemisphere.

I agree with you on the high profile QB situation, the guys who'd take those deals would be disgruntled middle of the pack QBs like a jimmy G, or prospects that are high profile but might not actually get much of a NFL chance, like a shadeur sanders

Told my friend about the idea and he asked GPT to come up with a whitepaper. This is what it generated:

Title: Shaping the Future of Global American Football: A Premier UK-Based League Powered by the Saudi Public Investment Fund

I. Introduction

American football is more than a sport - it's a spectacle of athleticism and strategy, uniting communities and cultures. It has, thus far, been primarily tethered to the North American landscape, particularly the United States. But the sport's potential for international expansion is vast and underexplored. The objective of this whitepaper is to propose the establishment of an elite American football league in the UK, strategically recruiting star players from the NFL and offering a unique appeal to budding talent. Financed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), this venture aims to globalize American football, create significant economic impact, and foster a dynamic, inclusive sporting culture.

II. The Globalization of American Football

The UK's enthusiasm for American football has been growing exponentially, as seen by the selling-out of NFL games in London since 2007. This trend signals an untapped market, ready for a home-grown league that brings American football closer to its eager fanbase. The proposed league aims to make a grand entrance in the UK market in 2024, with six-to-eight high-performing teams, playing a regular season followed by playoffs, mirroring the successful structure of the NFL. The locations for the teams would cover well-known football territories, as well as emerging markets, such as London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, and Edinburgh.

III. Player Acquisition and Talent Development

The heart and soul of this venture will be the players. Star running backs and wide receivers from the NFL will form the core talent of the league, bringing not just their exceptional skills, but also a familiar face for the fans. The league will make a grand entry into the international American football landscape by offering $150 million contracts to star New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Moreover, the league will attract promising young talent by offering highly lucrative, fully guaranteed contracts. As a case in point, Caleb Williams, USC Quarterback and predicted #1 pick for the 2024 NFL Draft, will be offered a $200 million contract to join this league instead. The attraction lies in the guarantee of these contracts, a significant draw for players given the physical toll of the sport and the corresponding career uncertainty.

IV. Financing and Commercial Prospects

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), with its record of investment in sports ventures and a keen focus on diversifying Saudi Arabia's portfolio, is the chosen financier for this ambitious project. The necessary capital to attract star talent, manage league operations, and create a compelling fan experience will be significant, making the PIF's participation instrumental.

The league's commercial model will be multi-tiered. Revenues will be generated from broadcasting rights, ticket sales, merchandise, and corporate partnerships. In the digital age, streaming rights present an untapped opportunity, allowing the league to reach beyond the UK and attract a global audience.

V. Community Engagement and Social Impact

The league aims to be more than just a collection of sporting events; it aims to be a catalyst for community development and engagement. Each team will lead initiatives to grow the sport at the grassroots level, create sustainable fan bases, and positively impact local communities. This will be achieved through school programs, open training sessions, community matches, and other outreach initiatives.

VI. Long-term Strategy and Expansion

The initial years will focus on league establishment and growth within the UK. However, the long-term vision includes expanding the league to other European countries, thereby globalizing American football and creating a culturally diverse, inclusive, and competitive sport.

VII. Conclusion

The proposed UK-based American football league signifies a bold step towards globalizing American football. It combines the talent and spectacle of the NFL, the financial might of the Saudi PIF, and the untapped potential of the UK and broader European market. Offering fully guaranteed contracts and lucrative deals to both established and emerging players, this league stands to make a significant impact on the sport, its players, and the communities it touches. By launching in 2024, it aims to create a new era of international American football, forever altering the landscape of the sport.

They ain't doing anything to the NFL, the NBA would be the next sport because it has global reach. If they do go the american football route, then it's to own a team and like one poster said it's gonna be interesting the mental gymnastics or copping owners and fans will do if that happens considering that one of the reasons the NFL and College FB is so patriotic heavy now is because of 9/11.
