Sammy Watkins:

“I’m not bashing him. I commend him for standing up,” Watkins said. “I’m not that guy to say he’s wrong or right. Like I said, he’s an adult. He knows what kind of backlash he was going to get.”

“A lot of guys bashed him about it and says it’s a bad thing, but I don’t know what his recent history was with that situation, or what kind of flared him to do that,” Watkins continued. “He wants to talk about it and hopefully get whatever he needs to get off his chest. But I think he has all the rights to do what he wants to do. He’s a grown man. Yes, in the NFL, we have rules and regulations, but sometimes stand-up guys like him choose to do otherwise and stand up for what he wants to stand up for.”

Watkins said he stands up and supports his head coach, Rex Ryan, for what his team wishes to do during the national anthem. And while the wide receiver didn’t feel particularly strongly about Kaepernick’s reasons to do what he did, with a more nuanced conversation, he believes strongly in the San Francisco quarterback being able to do what he feels is right.

“You have all the rights to stand up for what you want to stand up for,” Watkins remarked. “I think there needs to be more guys like [Kaepernick] that step up and say something. I think that definitely will help this generation and this world.”

“We do have a voice, and it can be to where we are too focused on our job and football, but, believe it or not I think there’s a lot of athletes that kind of feel like [Kaepernick], that just don’t have the time to say something or don’t reach out.”

Kaepernick explained his decision to sit during the national anthem, telling reporters that he didn’t want to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. Watkins didn’t support those claims, but did offer up the following message for the quarterback:

“All I can tell you is stay strong, man, and stay up about this decision that you made,” Watkins said. "If I had a situation like that, or a situation where I thought I would need to do it, I would do the same thing he did."

Yo I'll be honest. When I first saw the story I thought Colin was being an attention whore and trying to get cut.

But when I saw his locker room interview and found out he's been doing it ALL preseason and the media JUST NOW decided to blow it out of proportion I had to :salute: that brother.

this is my other issue. Like why are ppl just now angry when he's been doing it? Ohhh, because you didn't know about it....you just found out about it.....ok. Cool. So when you "just found out" other racial injustices that've been happening, did you jump on your soapbox for them too?

Add Warren Moon to the list.

this is one the most annoying statements, "this isn't the way to protest....find another way" Umm ok. "How Sway? How?"

You can post IG posts all day long, that won't do anything. How else is this guy gonna protest? What they want is him to go protest in a corner where nobody will ever notice. And that defeats the purpose. People need to know/see what he's protesting for in order to make a difference.

Somebody else said, "go give money like Michael Jordan".....umm, money doesn't change somethings.

But yall continue to watch this shyt? NFL, NBA, MLB, ect...don't gives a rats ass about black oppression, they hire a bunch of tamed, docile negroes who will never speak up for their people. It took a guy who is not even 1/4 black to speak up on these issues in the sports world? Salute to him, he cemented himself as a hero in my eyes.

But the rest of these dudes who are against him, and not saying shyt at all? I expect that shyt from cacs but :wow: Im done with American sports for good.

And those fukkers don't realize that shyt does nothing. That community policing shyt is predicated on people being in close proximity to each other. That cop in Ferguson were in close proximity to each other and yet they still had racist views and killed people. Let Kap donate his money to an anti-police union organization.

Damn. This is the most disappointing one. You would think a guy with top-tier NFL talent who literally had to leave the USA and waste prime years in Canada because his country thought he too dumb to be an NFL QB due to his blackness would be more sympathetic to this situation.
