:mjlol:Folk got revisionist history. SR 1 and 2 were arguably better than GTA 3 and 4-- especially with how disappointing GTA 4 was and the outcry when it first came out. San Andreas was arguably the greatest sand box game ever made, so when GTA 4 went away from that, Volition came along and stole Rockstar's thunder.

There was a heavy debate at the time on which franchise is better; that was until SR 3 came out on that silly shyt and killed all of their potential.

:mjlol:If Volition never went super silly with the direction of the franchise, they'd be neck and neck with Rockstar right now. Let's not forget how ahead of their time Saints Row was with their plot. Helping one of the female gang members Aisha get her music career popped off and basically being the muscle behind the scenes. That's a genius plot that reflects what's happening in the music industry now in real life. That storyline was a million times better than GTA 3, it's not even a question.
See, I can tell you played the games.

SR 2 story was amazing. You actually cared about your psychopaths and only the first game was “gangsta” stuff.

Second game you were going against the Yakuza, Jamaicans, and biker/outlaw gang.

I think that is above street gang level considering these folks were way more organized.

Your people died in both games in terrible ways :mjcry: (Lin, Carlos, Aisha)

Amazing mix of humor and seriousness that GTA couldn’t pull off consistently.

That is why it hurts to see the franchise like this :mjcry:

:mjlol:You're delusion. SR 1 was better than GTA3. No debate. The only debate is SR2 versus GTA4, which I personally feel SR2 was better.

No it wasn’t. Y’all just post anything. SR ran like shyt(it was the first and pretty much a launch game) and it was boring as shyt. 3 is the reason we even have open world gameplay in its current iteration. The second SR was much improved. But no where was it better than 4. Only thing SR has one GTA is character customization and slightly better mission structure (or did) GTA smashes then in every other aspect

Hit the nail on the head

They defeated themselves feeling that they needed to branch out and differentiate itself more from GTA. In reality there was room for healthy competition

Y’all buggin.

And i’m saying this as someone who absolutely loved the game and had more fun with it than GTA4

SR2 got shytted on heavy

6.3 from IGN

There was no debate which was the better game or about SR taking over the Genre.

It was always a stupid fun kinda spoof of a GTA game.

Some people like myself enjoyed the more stupid fun take on the genre as GTA went more realistic but the new Saints row game is the same as the series has always been. Even down to the shytty PC port :mjlol:

Dog I remember getting Saints Row the Third first day off GP because of how I hard I messed with the first two entries of the series. No reviews or previews necessary. Instantly from the first hour I knew like :patrice: something was off about the game. Beat it grudgingly and never touched it again. There are countless dudes that felt that way. These corporate idiots looked at the sales #'s like :ohlawd: "That's what were talking about Volition keep it up". And the dudes at the studios are like "OK cool :leon: ". These dudes saw it was the highest selling entry and thought OK bet let's do morrrre dumb s***, completely disregarding that the fanbase bought that third entry off the goodwill they built up with the franchise. Just a textbook example about being out of touch with your fans, it's maaaad disappointing it had to end this way with the potential the series had :wow:
