The comments seemed to have leveled out because I'm seeing a lot of cacs who are saying they think it would stupid for SR to go back to being a "GTA clone" and that they think GTA sucks because there's not enough characters like Trevor in the story ()

I fully disagreed with the author's take, and I actually felt that SR differentiated itself pretty well from GTA even in 2 so.

Yeah, I disagree with the author in a couple of levels too.

First off, the entire argument of the article is some of the most gaming hipster shyt ever. There are tons of of games out there now that range front lighthearted to outright absurd in tone, regardless of size/budget. I mean, at the most basic level, the very concept of Fortnite is ridiculous comedy, but that doesn't really fit their argument, I guess.

Secondly, Saints Row IV was the end of the road for that style of game for multiple reasons. For one, it had reached the point where escalating the absurdity was getting unsustainable, to the detriment of the game itself. There were so many crazy developments that eventually none of it really mattered. Additionally, going that far with the humor actually narrows the audience, because not everyone is into that shyt. There are people that praise the opening sequence with disarming the missile midflight, but that shyt did absolutely nothing for me, and came off as corny.

But most importantly, if you're going to lean that hard into absurdist humor meant to make fun of video games themselves, you eventually have to come with some form of next level gameplay to validate getting those jokes off. SR4 most definitely didn't do that.

And besides, they tried going big with Agents of Mayhem and caught a brick.

The news that the new Saints Row will be a more grounded, less offensive game than previous entries in the franchise, has been met with mixed responses.
