I watched the first 3 episodes of DD, and it's safe to say that netflix original programming is now rivaling HBO. They got:

House of cards
OITNB
Daredevil
Unbreakable Kimmy
Peaky Binders

with hopefully even more piff on the way. and oh yeah, netflix is filming all their new series in 4K, so cats who copped the 4K tv's FINALLY have some content to watch.

Peaky Blinders isn't a Netflix original.
Veep and Silicon Valley are both >>> Kimmy Schmidt.
House of Cards sucks. It's a USA level show that thinks its an HBO one and takes it self way too serious for how much of a cartoon it is.
OITNB is cool little dramedy but i don't anything special about that puts it above, say Shameless on Showtime.

HBO has the most popular show on television in Game of Thrones. Netflix's response is the wack ass wannabe Marco Polo. They have John Oliver delivering weekly sonnings and interviewing Edward Snowden, Netflix's response is to give Chelsea Handler a late night show. HBO's original documentaries are getting guys arrested for murder and and putting cults on blast. They're supposedly getting Chappelle's first standup special in 10 years as well.

It's not even close imo.

:what: Let's be real, a lot of these Netflix original shows that y'all are cysing in this thread WOULD NOT be getting as much hype if they aired on TV. Binge-watching makes a lot of shows better watches than if you had to watch it week-to week.

Getting those Marvel shows was big coupe for Netflix & the Cable networks should be slapping themselves for not hopping on it. But, I don't buy for 1 second that Netflix's original programming is better than HBO or FX.

Reading this thread got me thinking about all the slept-on or overlooked shows that air on HBO, Showtime, Starz, FX, AMC, Cinemax, & etc. that y'all would be hyping up if they were Netflix original shows.

@hexagram23 @kp404 @MartyMcFly @FlyRy @steadyrighteous I can't be the only 1 who shares this opinion?

Nah, HBO still has a lot of juice. HBO is probably GOAT status when it comes to quality Original Dramas and Documentaries.

Netflix has stepped it up with their Original Series Dramas though (House of Cards, Daredevil etc), but if HBO wants to keep up they have to expand their movie lists. Netflix right now is light years above them...plus the PS3 Netflix App is way nicer than HBO GO

Isn't the binge watching feature a point for Netflix though? You can't discount it.

How about a study in the pay TV market? Comparing products helps in the search for future piff.

But you're going to get dope shyt regardless that's the point. And even this comparison isn't any type of actual study or even a fair one because everyone has different taste. Let's say you love Silicon Valley game of thrones veep and house of cards but aren't feeling daredevil. But then you're also a fan of Orange is the new black. We can't determine what network is "better" because everyone has different taste and there might be something running on Netflix that you can't get on HBO and vice versa.

I love politics so I can get two doses of it in the form of house of cards and veep; why in the hell should I choose if I don't have to? Two different shows with two very different aims. It's like the Xbox vs playstation debate: if you're a gamer and you love video games then there's no reason to pick a side. I love uncharted but I also love gears of war and if I couldn't play one or the other I'd be unhappy. It should be about the product not the company or the service just like it should be about the games not the company

As a time saving measure it is good to know whom you consider puts out better product more frequently. If a show looks borderline interesting and it is on the channel you deem the best you are more likely to check that out vs seeing a borderline interesting show on a network with a bad track record, you are less likely to check that out.
Everyone is different but if you can get some kind of consensus around something it helps or hurts word of mouth wise. TNT, Cinemax, USA and Starz have a bad reputation as far as original content. HBO, Netflix, FX, AMC and to a lesser extent Showtime have a good reputation. Amazon and Yahoo have no reputation. If a new show comes out, the platform it is presented makes people more or less likely to check for it. Instead of sifting thru every single show that has something interesting about it.

That's cool breh but that's just not something for me. I go for shows, not for networks or anything like that. If mad men went to HBO like weiner originally wanted but the walking dead stayed on AMC, it wouldn't change my opinion of either network. I just really don't give a damn. I think it's good to have consensus of a good show but not a "network" because not everything a network does is going to be perfect and they will stumble at times trying to take risks or trying not to take risks. I just can't get behind putting on a cape for a big corporation. Maybe it's the liberal in me or the rebel but it's just not my style:whoknows: but that's what works for me, which is why I didn't come in this thread to begin with because obviously this debate works for other people so why not let them cook?
