Yeah, the problem with Punk (and really, 99.9% of the wrestlers throughout history) is that even if he is very good in the ring and very charismatic on the mic, he has a ceiling. He will never transcend the wrestling industry. It's not a knock on him; I happen to enjoy his segments. It's just an unavoidable fact. He's great within the business, but there's not a lot of crossover appeal and non-fans aren't drawn to wrestling by his performances.
So the business can roll along with okay ratings with people like Punk and Cena at the top, but it won't truly explode until they find the next true crossover superstar. The problem is that most people with that kind of charisma end up in other fields of the entertainment industry.
