I wouldnt pay much attention to Russian state tv shows because they are not here to inform but to deliver propaganda. I even feel like they have to be outlandish at times so they can show how patriotic they are in order to not get suicided or sent to the gulag.
Maybe they believe in what they say, it's possible, but history shows that propaganda journos in authoritarian states often knew they were lying but had to go with the script anyway.
