The Russians may be trash, but they are winning this war. This year has not been good for the Ukrainian effort at all.

From what I been following, they did the drone war and missle launch stuff and it lead to a stalemate. When they started putting boots on the ground, they been able to advance and take more Ukraine land.

Russia's military is def weak tho.

Ukraine doesn't have the manpower to match Russia ultimately, and whatever tactical or tech advantage they had is gone or negligible at this stage.

they dont want to own ukraine - they are making sure ukraine can never join NATO. now they are even farther than ever from qualifying. they are demographically, politically, and economically set back and with what appears to be a frozen war in place. you cant qualify for NATO under these circumstances. they want a buffer

i dont buy that. it may be a romanticized explanation, but russia's needs are pretty obviously for regional hegemonic control, not unlike america and the cuban missile crisis. great powers are simply not going to tolerate what has been going on in ukraine.
