if they can agree to not behave like a NATO proxy, this can come to a close at least for some time. at this point, both sides probably want this to stop, but somebody needs to be the one to give it up...it wont be russia.
I don’t see how or why the Russians would agree to this. They would just rearm Ukraine in that 20 yr time frame. All these so called peace proposals are just centered around buying time.
So this means the war resumes in 20 years. Why would Putin agree to this when he can have his glory of conquest now?
By then Russia would have re-armed and a new leader will get the glory to finish what Putin started.
Yea Ukraine is toast. Maybe Zelensky should have gotten the fukk out when Biden offered the helicopter ride.

this sounds about as logical an end as one can expect. basically the same thing some of us have been saying for quite some time. ukraine isnt getting back the ethnic russian parts, but russia isnt going to conquer all of ukraine either, and if they did, the guerilla war would be more draining than the current war of attrition. they both need this to stop for different reasons, and ukraine really needs at least 20 years to recover demographically. they arent going to qualify for NATO for a whole host of reasons anyway; might as well end this and most likely, there wont be a need for renewed conflict. also, putin will be dead or senile by that point.
Russia will come back 20 years from now.
I will say this deal is more dangerous than the current stalemate. Russia can keep what they have but never formalize it.
In the Korean war there was no peace deal. US kept arming the south and then the north and soviets gave up. We should have the same approach but Trump will send Ukraine to the dogs.

the north didnt give up. they had an armistice deal and both sides traded prisoners and stopped shooting. the line is frozen where the fighting stopped. you dont get a deal like that if either side wants to continue fighting. this is how i think ukraine russia can end. i think both are at a point where stopping where it's at is the best outcome, at least for now. over time, there likely wont be a reason to resume shooting, just like korea.

Both sides signed the deal after the death of Stalin. The new Soviet regime did not want to fight so they had no choice. It's a ceasefire deal not a formal end of the war. Big difference. How could NK if the soviets didn't arm them? No chance.
We can take same approach with Ukraine.
