Russia Detains Former Separatist Ukraine Commander
The Moscow Timesone day ago

Igor Strelkov (Girkin), former defense minister of the Donetsk People's Republic. Sergei Fadeichev / TASS
Russian army veteran and ex-FSB officer Igor Girkin has been detained, his wife and the RBC business daily’s sources said Friday.

Girkin, who helped Moscow annex Crimea in 2014 and then organized pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine
, was detained by law enforcement officers around 11:30 a.m. Moscow time, his wife Miroslava Reginskaya said on his Telegram channel.

According to the RBC business daily, the detention came after a complaint from a former member of the Wagner mercenary outfit, which Girkin had criticized in the past.

Public court records show that Girkin is being charged with “public incitement of extremist activity,” which is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Moscone's Meshchansky District Court ordered Girkin to two months of pre-trial detention.

“I guess they [Kremlin leadership] got f***ing annoyed with him... pardon my French,” a Kremlin official told The Moscow Times on condition of anonymity.

His arrest comes three days after he called on Putin to step down.

“The country will not survive another six years of this cowardly mediocrity in power,” Girkin wrote to his more than 800,000 subscribers on the Telegram messaging app Tuesday.

“He lost his sense of danger at some point, somehow believing he could say anything he wanted. But no one is allowed to do that here now,” another insider told The Moscow Times.

According to Russian political expert Tatiana Stanovaya, Girkin's arrest “undeniably serves the interests” of Russia’s Defense Ministry.

“This is a moment many within the siloviki have eagerly awaited. Strelkov had overstepped all conceivable boundaries a long time ago, sparking the desire among security forces — from the FSB to military chiefs — to apprehend him,” Stanovaya wrote in a Telegram post.

“It's unlikely that there will be massive repressions against 'angry patriots,' but the most vehement dissenters may face prosecution, serving as a cautionary tale for others,” she added.

Girkin was sentenced to life in prison in absentia by a court in The Hague in November 2022 for the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine in 2014, killing 298 people.

Exposed: Russian spies in Poland tasked with derailing trains with aid to Ukraine - media
This was reported by Gazeta Polska, which covered the case probed by the Internal Security Agency and the Polish Prosecutor's Office targeting the Russian spy network, Ukrinform reports.

"From March to July, a total of 15 people were detained and charged with espionage for the Russian GRU military intelligence. They face up to 10 years in prison," the report says.

The newspaper notes the fact that this is the largest Russian spy ring ever exposed in Poland. It consisted of citizens of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine.

As noted, the investigation is being run by the National Prosecutor's Office in Lublin. In total, 66 volumes have already been collected in the case. Those detained have testified that among other things, they had been planning to blow up trains carrying weapons and humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

"The risk of terrorist attacks was too great to just continue monitoring the group," the publication notes.

It is emphasized that the members of the spy network received tasks directly from Moscow, also receiving rewards in cryptocurrency, most often in bitcoins, which was then exchanged for cash.

"Members of the espionage network, commissioned by the Russians, were not only supposed to gather intelligence, photograph military and civilian objects, incite anti-Ukrainian and anti-NATO sentiments, but also to prepare acts of sabotage," the publication emphasizes.

Gazeta Polska notes that the spy network was created early this year, just 12 months into the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Putin claims that western Poland is gift from Stalin

Vladimir Putin

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has described western Polish territory as a "gift" from Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin, claiming that it was his actions that caused Poland to receive this area from Germany after World War II.

"The western territories of present-day Poland are a gift from Stalin to the Poles, have our friends in Warsaw forgotten about this? We will remind you," Putin threatened at a meeting with members of the Russian security council on July 21. :gucci:

The dictator also instructed the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshki,n to monitor Poland's possible intention to “occupy Western Ukraine.” There is no evidence of this being a possibility. :dahell:

In Putin's imagination, a "Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian initiative in the field of security" may “occupy” Western Ukraine. He did not provide any evidence for this. :dahell:

He threatened Poland with the loss of its independence as a result of "such aggressive politics." Putin also claimed that Poland owes its independence to the Soviet Union. :dahell:

On May 21, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin blamed Poland for “betraying historical memory” and claimed it owes over $750 billion to Moscow for its liberation from Nazi Germany and rebuilding of the country.

"For centuries, Russia has been great at turning things on their heads to pull the wool over our eyes," Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said, commenting on Volodin's absurd claims.

1940/2010 armor vs Hydraulic Press, timestamped.

When Ukr armor does start moving en mass, this is what you should keep in mind. At the end of the day a tank is dangerous whether it is modern or 80 years old. It's still a tank. But that's only until they face modern tanks. During WW2, US tankers would admit that a Panzer could take out 10 Shermans but there was always an 11th.

Russia doesn't have those numbers or the manufacturing capacity of the Soviets so sending ancient armor is the only option. Just remember this vid when the tank battles start.
