The US should put at least one carrier group in the Black Sea. The US has 11 of them. Why not put 3 or 4 of them in the Black Sea. Is Turkey really gonna stop that from happening?
Turkey still tryna play both side of the fence...they could allow a carrier through the Straits but of course they'll want something in return.
As it stands they're probably waiting on who will give the most aid or help erdogan win back his presidency.
Erdogan wants that canal because he'll be able to bypass the Montreux resolution which restricts warships in the black sea
Given the environmental risks and the earthquake..no way the Canal happens...unless someone like America or China put in major billions for it to happen.
The Montreux Convention regulates maritime traffic through the Turkish Straits. It guarantees "complete freedom" of passage for all civilian vessels in times of peace. In peacetime, military vessels are limited in number, tonnage and weaponry, with specific provisions governing their mode of entry and duration of stay. If they want to pass through the Strait, warships must provide advance notification to the Turkish authorities, which, in turn, must inform the parties to the convention.
[6][note 1] In wartime,
if Turkey is not involved in the conflict, warships of the nations at war may not pass through the Straits, except when returning to their base.[7] The US is not a signatory to the Convention.[8] When Turkey is at war, or feels threatened by a war, it may take any decision about the passage of warships as it sees fit
