I don't see this thing ending anytime soon. It seems like it's getting more serious with the US and China talking more freely about this proxy war. It's time for negotiations. We gotta give Putin a way to safe face because that is the only way he will stop this madness. The alternative is the possibility of him nuking is becoming serious.

Thats the way Macron and Scholz think. The rest of the Allies want maximum pressure. I dont want World War 3 at all but Putin has been doing this since 08 in Georgia and he wont stop. Neither will his succesor whether its Medvedev again or his government collapses and someone else comes along. The thing is, a Putin collapse is 100 percent gonna lead to an Ultranationalist coup. I'm not 100% certain Putin's lieutenants will operate like Putin. I think they are playing the part. Medvedev; although a Putin puppet; governed like he wanted to reconcile relations with the West. It wasn't until this latest conflict he started talking spicy about the West. I think they all have to talk a certain way or risk getting window cancer.

And I think Putin's lost his shyt because he's dying. He's not a rational actor, which we should all be very worried about..

This invasion does not make any sense when you add up how many countries will never cooperate or recognize Russia again.

China is only beginning to turn because unfortunately we're in an economic war with them at the same time.

He wouldn't stop at a "piece" though. Putin gets to keep his troops in any of the occupied territories, Russia will just launch another invasion when they've had time to regroup

If you "give" putin part of Ukraine that he illegally annexed, then what stops him from doing it again right after that?

China may tell him "no nukes", but Russia isn't handing over the briefcase to fire them to China, they aren't giving their nukes to China, Russia is going to give China Oil since they've been stockpiling it with everyone not buying from them.

Russia and China both want the same thing and that's to hurt and embarrass the US

Nah the Ultranationalists wouldn't come from within the main Putin United Russia camp, my fear is Putin getting so shaky at home after the draft that he is forced to resign and a New government takes his place but all the opposition is even MORE pro war than he is at this point. Dude open a Pandoras box for real. Could you imagine Yegveny Prigozhin rising from the ashes or someone like him being the head of Russia??? Rebuilding that bytch like post WW1 Germany??? Not even the first option, this ends with a world war or internal regime change thats it. And the second option is not happening, sorry. Im from bummy ass Cuba were the government is rocking Soviet era AKs and tactics and they havent been able to topple that shyt from inside yet. Russian security apparatus is knee deep in society and they're purging everybody who aint down for the ride. The only way this stops from spiraling is if we start letting our nuts hang on the nuclear issue and let them know in no uncertain terms were all going out of they try that shyt.

I agree with first point. A lot of the machinery is just going along hoping/waiting for putin to die or be pushed out internally.

I also agree that knowing you're about to die can push otherwise "rational" people to take chances or make moves that are dangerous. But I think the "world war" and "nukes" talk is seriously overblown, and frankly plays into russian hands. They're hoping it frightens european governments and people who aren't as invested in the conflict into pushing for a negotiated end to the war, which would guarantee that russia gets to keep some part of ukraine.

The machinery of the russian military/security services etc will not allow putin to use nukes - these are people who are going to be around no matter who is their president. You really think they're willing to risk their families and future for putin? People need to realize that putin isn't God. He (or his policies) may be popular, but he's not a hitler or emperor hirohito like figure who the people look to as a god. He is not THE power. He is the chosen representative of the power (sivloki).

WTF are people talking about a world war? This is Russia vs Ukraine that is equipped by the US/Europe. Who is going to join Russia in a world war? Where is this world war going to take place? Is the Russian navy going to attack Hawaii or send submarines off the eastern coast of the US? Are we bringing back the draft?
