Cause you want them to go back to their own country ( instead of Europe or America) instead of being refugees on America’s tax dime, they need time to rebuild their economy and that means knowing they have a safety net to restart businesses, farms, and starting families.

Exactly the reason we have pensions here. To encourage people to stay on that rat race of a 9-5.

You are paying for them one way or the other. At least this way there’s some hope they can get their own financial situation in order and not need it.

We need UBI right here in the US.

Maybe so.

My problem is when we are still pretending like there’s some finite amount of money. You change Ukraine to poor black kids and it’s the same argument republicans use for not helping anyone. “How does that help me…?” Then accuse others of being bleeding hearts for thinking about others people doing well might in turn help you.

I agree.

no the fukk it doesnt. no one wants to hear that we're paying ukranian pensions, when the price of eggs is up 70 percent

please explain how paying the pensions of ukranians improves the lives of anyone in america
Buy local eggs ...you'll find the price hasn't gone too high on those...from like whole foods or trader Joe's...he'll even safeway. Vital farms price hasn't differed much.

Why is this funny (people who responding with laughing emojis). Yes, Russian loses would be high. Ukrainian death counts would be horrific.

Because it's so stupid. And I don't think that Russia's Air Force would inflict many deaths or damage on the battlefield. As soon as they take off NATO would know so long as weather permits satellite observation.

Send all those birds in the air Putin.

Russia wasn't able to operate in Ukraine's airspace before they got a bunch of new western systems and now it would just be suicidal. Russia won't be able to replace their planes, pilots, missiles and etc without great cost and it could take a very long time. Russia never really stopped trying to use planes and helicopters in the east... they just get shot down usually several a month.

What are you imagining happening that would lead to horrific Ukrainian death counts?

Russia is already using standoff missiles launched from Russian airspace ya know?

i agree but this is about the usa taking control of the natural gas industry in europe and strengthening ties with all those countries over there and isolating russia. is it worth it in the long run when you bleed russia out and drive the country into the ground without its massive natural gas industry pushing everybody around? i think its worth it

the short term sucks but you get to destroy the russian army without firing a shot and weakening that economy significantly

High altitude, low accuracy bombing campaigns.

This article suggests that Ukraine isn't nearly as impregnable to Russian forces as you suggest.

This article might be fearmongering, but suggests the Russian air attacks could be very ugly.

I believe they'll be easier to shoot down the higher they are. Usually, it’s better to fly low to go under radar systems (a high risk in itself). But I agree, the air defense systems aren’t foolproof. You can overwhelm good systems with sheer volume of attacks - which is all Russia knows. They’ll accept the losses, but they have a good chance of hitting (and missing) a lot of targets. I also really think they really have a skilled pilot issue, but it looks like we'll see soon.

I honestly can't even imagine what that would look like this isn't WW2.

Uh anything is possible but Russia in theory needs to conduct serious SEAD operations against Ukraine's air defense network first and for whatever reason they've been incapable of doing that so far. The US just rolled up a high level spy network in the BND that supposedly Russia had trying to crack Ukraine's air defense network locations. Ukraine has fighter jets as well that I'm sure they would deploy if Russia tried using their bombers inside Ukraine. It's much less risky to have them fire cruise missiles from Russia or the Caspian Sea. I'm pretty sure I watched a video where most of Russian bombers are out of production and they may be incapable of producing some... so any loss there is serious and this was also before sanctions.

Anything is possible in war but I think it's important we look at Russia's capabilities and the use of their air force so far to gauge what is realistic instead of looking at the number of aircraft they allegedly have and what the US could do in similar circumstances.

I don't have a wapo subscription and they churn out even more bs than the nyt

Also not for nothing but NATO has that whole grid under surveillance it would really be a suicide mission

Just happened to check what was going on over Ukraine now and this is just what is public

lmao
