I highly recommend you all check out Fiona Hill on Lex Fridman's podcast, it dives partly into why Putin felt confident to invade Ukraine, some of the chaos of the Trump admin and a lot of other things Fiona is extremely intelligent, I wasn't really familiar with her before.

the us does give ukraine ships, i vaguely recall most of them being scuttled, seized or destroyed in february tho
edit: it was just some 170-ish ton patrol vessels and it was way less than i thought, nvm
