I don’t even understand his angle here... Manafort is currently on trial for wire fraud, bank fraud and tax evasion. This has on its face so far nothing to do with Trump and the evidence against him is being made public so why would Trump go out of his way to defend him?

This is the most unhinged I’ve seen him and this is among the highest levels of popularity for him among the base. Shrewd political calculation could allow for this.
