It’s about precedent.

See in the future if there is a special prosecutor people are reluctant to hard code them into the system.

You gotta think long term with these laws.

Plus senators are generally more conservative and cautious. They’re not representatives pushing for radical short term change.

"Precedent" :mjlol:

Nah. It's about white privilege.

Facebook Security Chief Said to Leave After Clashes Over Disinformation

Alex Stamos, the chief information security officer for Facebook. He has urged more disclosure over Russian activity on Facebook.Steve Marcus/Reuters
Facebook’s chief information security officer, Alex Stamos, will leave the company after internal disagreements over how the social network should deal with its role in spreading disinformation, according to current and former employees briefed on the matter.

Mr. Stamos had been a strong advocate inside the company for investigating and disclosing Russian activity on Facebook, often to the consternation of other top executives, including Sheryl Sandberg, the social network’s chief operating officer, according to the current and former employees, who asked not to be identified discussing internal matters.

After his day-to-day responsibilities were reassigned to others in December, Mr. Stamos said he would leave the company. He was persuaded to stay through August to oversee the transition of his duties because executives thought his departure would look bad, the current and former employees said. He has been overseeing the transfer of his security team to Facebook’s product and infrastructure divisions. His group, which once had 120 people, now has three, the current and former employees said.

Mr. Stamos would be the first high-ranking employee to leave Facebook since controversy erupted over disinformation on its site. His departure is a sign of heightened leadership tensions at the company.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s chief executive, Ms. Sandberg and other company leaders have struggled to address a growing set of problems, including Russian interference on the platform, the rise of false news, and the disclosure this past weekend that 50 million of its user profiles had been harvested by Cambridge Analytica, a voter-profiling company that worked on President Trump’s election campaign.

Facebook did not immediately have a comment.

Now you’re reaching. Again, look what happened after the Clinton special prosecutor
Lmao! There is no comparison. Nothing compares to what Trump has done by attacking the feds. They would have passed a bill on Obama MONTHS ago. Precedent would have been an afterthought if this was about Obama.

Should we all just leave Facebook? That may sound attractive but it is not a viable solution. In many countries, Facebook and its products simply are the internet. Some employers and landlords demand to see Facebook profiles, and there are increasingly vast swaths of public and civic life — from volunteer groups to political campaigns to marches and protests — that are accessible or organized

This is why nothing will happen to FB as a company. Think about how FB is integrated into so many other industries (restaurants, news/media etc). Not to mention this isn’t going to stop grandparents who are only on FB bc they otherwise wouldn’t see their grand kids, from logging on.

Zuck is finished. Maybe Sandberg as there’s no way she was kept in the dark about this. But they will bring in new leadership and company will go on.

We talk about this shyt all the time, but there is going to be a massive shift in the expectations of news and information dissemination in the years to come.

The pace of bombshells thanks to Cheeto and friends might even conceivably make us more susceptible to falling victim to fake news in the future. When outrageous scandals are the norm, how can your brain just shift from 100mph back down to 5?

Like I was at work Saturday reading an article on McCabe and I had literally forgotten that Tillerson was fired 5 DAYS AGO.

:mindblown:

And now with this CA news popping off, all of that shyt is Stone Age level history already. It's utter insanity. Shyt, Stormy Daniels is already outdated as far as headlines go.
I talked to my fiancee about this very thing.

We were watching SNL and they had their cold opening with John Goodman playing Rex Tillerson. I thought Tillerson got fired a month ago. IT WAS MONDAY!
