I don't understand what he gains by whipping those folks into a frenzy.
He's not up for election anymore. His supporters can't stop the Russian leaks or a possible impeachment. What the hells the point of lying to them just for nothing to come of it?
I think he just needs to feel people like and believe in him
If he has his base supporting him through any allegation, any Republican up for re-election in a place where he won heavily will back down for fear of losing their seat. They don't want to be seen as taking the side of Obama to people who despite benefitting from his policies, hate him. Party over Country. Gotta keep control.
Dems are afraid of being caught offsides against Trump in those same districts/states. They can't really stand up too hard. Look at Joe Manchin, the Senior Senator from West Virginia...... He usually went with Republicans on Pro-Life and 2nd amendment legislation but now he has voted yes on 14 of 18 of Trump's cabinet appointments and has already said he would meet with/welcome a vote on Gorsuch, because he knows he needs to keep his seat and the party will still fund him because of that.
He can just stall while they pass more and more harmful legislation and he keep issuing pointless/terrible EOs until the dam actually breaks. The IC can keep leaking to the media, but the smoking gun has to come from someone with legal authority to bring charges. And that means he's put the ball in the court of Comey, the Deputy AG, or the Republican held Senate to do something to end this farce quickly (The Obama Claims) or stay the course (on the Russian investigation)
And he loves the attention these losers heap on him. And they eat up stuff like this. He's more than just a hero, he's a demigod to them.
