I find it wildly entertaining that this information could have come out days if not weeks ago but it was intentionally sat on until after Trump's address to Congress. They figured they'd either be adding insult to injury or killing any momentum he might have gained from his speech.

Congress was in recess for the past week or so. I noticed none of these stories came out around that time. Because it allows time to pass where congress isn't forced to engage the issue and it can slide off their radar. The AG is the head of the DOJ, the top law enforcement officer. That means he could make or break any governmental investigations because he'd have say so. To recuse himself means that he removes himself from involvement and those who have involvement in an open case. He'd essentially be in the dark about anything that goes on in the investigation of this administration and Russia. He would be getting his updates on the investigation the same way you do - if of course he truly recused himself.

It means stepping down from a particular position, mainly because there is a possible conflict of interest.
In this case Sessions is offering to step aside and have someone else lead the Russian investigation. But he still keeps his job as AG.

Sessions doesn't even need to resign. Being forced to recuse is a bigger issue because it removes Trump's LAST line of defense. Last week Trump forced his CIA director AND the House Intelligence chairman to defend him to the media, thus ruining their credibility. That left Sessions as the last card Trump had to save him with a bullshyt investigation. Now Sessions has been taken out.
The entire POINT of the presidency is being surrounded by layers of support that defend you from shyt+back up your power. Because at the end of the day the president can pardon you, so you gotta defend him right lol. You gotta protect the president because he can save you..and if he goes down everyone goes down. Well now Trump is naked. He's fukked.
When this goes to an independent panel or investigator it's game over. British intelligence already has Trump officials on tape talking to Russia. Who wants to bet those officials were given high ranking jobs throughout the government...
