Nah breh it's an actual person not a code name. The main way to know is this: George Lazenby's Bond got married and she died on their wedding date. Roger Moore's bond acknowledges her and her death in two subsequent movies, once when someone brings up his past marriage and once when visiting her grave. Then Timothy Dalton's bond refuses to talk about marriage and it runs him the wrong way prompting Felix to say "he was married once, a long time ago"
It would make sense for it to be a code name. Then bonds could die and be replaced. Then in this current world like somebody said idris could be 009 or something, have Craig retire or die or Somethin and you could cleanly transition into idris like he's already been putting in work he just becoming 007 now.
But it's not a code name brehs. James Bond as a character has a background. They even showed his parents graves in skyfall. It's one man played by different actors. Daniel Craig is the first of them to break the cycle due to it being a reboot but he's still James bond. It would still be easy to make him a black man though by doing this one simple thing: don't acknowledge it. His race is hardly ever acknowledged in the movies minus the ones from the 60s and live and let die from 1973 where it had to be acknowledged. But I feel like if a black man took over it wouldn't make a difference in the storytelling

And I'll add something else to this whole "Bond is a codename" theory: In Goldeneye, M calls Bond a relic of the cold war and he acknowledges that her predecessor was a man, something that becomes a point of contention in the movie. I know it's a popular theory but I can't understand how because when you watch the movies, it pokes holes in the theory in damn near every way possible

Skyfall went out of it's way to dismiss the whole "007 is a codename" notion, regardless it's always been the same man in each series. A black Bond would be seen as a reboot and probably require one like The Equalizer. They've only just rebooted Bond.
Yeah I thought about that. Since he clearly has a history that's not just referenced and tossed aside every now and then you'd have to do some serious retconning to explain how these two white people gave birth to a black man. But again there are at least three or four movies in the series that establish it's the same guy as throw water on the code name theory.

On his radio show Tuesday, Limbaugh was reacting to a story that came from the leaked Sony emails ... saying Idris Elba, star of "Luther" and "The Wire," should take over the iconic part from Daniel Craig.
But Limbaugh feels that Elba (who he describes as "African-English," since Elba is a Brit) is not right for the role because Bond was created as a white guy and should stay that way.
Limbaugh said, "Now Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out."
