Probably sold the availability aspect to Nutella, who is a proponent of having Microsoft services availability anywhere it can be. Now that they're going SEGA, you can generate extra monies from publishing on other platforms. Sounds good to them.

The problem is, of course, what it took to get there. 70 billion and then some in acquisitions, a floundering hardware division for two straight generations, and kneecapping individual sales with GamePass.

I dunno if they're trying to strong arm GamePass onto other platforms, but they'll have to think real hard about that one in the future since they're beholden to someone else's rules. Interoperability with mobile devices via GamePass is the better route (ex. continue where you left off), but then you need deeper investments into software for "this is an Xbox" devices and the presumably cloud backend to provide it.

You'd think that last one wouldn't be a problem as MS owns the Azure platform, but they also are allergic to using that advantage. Remember, these are the guys that left Halo, their marquee gaming franchise, in the dumpster with networking problems.

Gamepass was supposed to be an industry “disruptor” and devalue full priced gaming enough to the point where nintendo and sony would have been forced to put it on their platforms.
