said this a couple years ago in the boxing thread and I guess this confirms it....

it's a damn shame. just tells us roy obviously knows he's done. he knows he's making a fool of himself. but he has no choice. it would be dope if somebody in boxing paid off his debts and so he can enjoy the rest of his life. I know he's a man and he gotta live with the mistakes he made but dude gonna get his life ended one of these days. wether in the ring or out of it. dude obviously got some powerful people over his head:francis:

Good call, but is extorted the right verbiage to use?

I mean if he's forcing roy do something he doesn't want to do, then I believe so. he's pretty much making him put his life on the line to pay off his debt. and I don't think roy is doing it just to be kind. he's doing it cause he knows what will happen if he doesn't. seems like extortion to me. I understand he's in debt to the man, but it's still extortion:yeshrug:

These dudes really need to just let their money sit in a bank account until they can get out and take some financial education classes to really learn what to do with it. Way too many of these guys end up broke off of some awesome 'investments' pushed on them by their shady accountant or financial adviser. They also have way too many yes men around them telling them their wild expenditures is cool. They don't have anyone in their circle telling them that buying that massive mansion is a surefire way to head towards bankruptcy due to not only how much you have to pay, but property taxes and maintenance. Same thing with all that gaudy jewelry. There was some thread about an nba player who spent nearly a million in jewelry and got robbed and people who said he shouldn't have that much in jewelry were called haters. It's sad that most of these athletes don't have anyone around them to tell them the real.

We all have personal responsibility and shyt in this world but it truly is disheartening when you see somebody who became a legend in their field and dedicated DECADES of work and did everything and they ended up with no money to show for it. I'm truly :to: thinking of cats like Tyson, Jones, Lil' Wayne, etc., etc., seeing as they ended up with no financial security from their legacies (even though the blame is certainly on them as well, something must be said for the fact that these cats were basically steered into their careers before they were even teenagers and therefore had to be dependent on others to watch out for them financially and we all know how that goes).

@Achille probably knows

Them commentary jobs are basically normal media journalist jobs so he probably gets like 75K which ain't sh!t once they take the taxes out. Especially from Roy somebody who used to get 3-5 million being an HBO fighter. He's highest he's ever gotten was 10 million guaranteed for the Ruiz fight. Which isn't anything to the kind of figures that Mayweather and other Al Haymon's fighters get today.

Roy definitely blew his money not paying attention and doing bad investments over the years. He still has plenty of business deals going on using his name and like in the USA etc.

Many boxers owe the IRS so it's not far fetch, when you got somebody else handling that for you and it doesn't get done. I heard Floyd even with all the money he makes be owing the IRS.
