I never knew about this. This is the third place I have now found out about in Florida where the cacs burned it to the ground.
The more you learn.. the more you learn we are never going to change this country..

A lot of them were destroyed via infrastructure upgrades at our expense... 7th Street in West Oakland was full of black businesses before they razed the majority of them in the 1970s by building an elevated rail right through the middle of the business district
What happened to the Fillmore in San Francisco was even worse. Over the course of 10 years of urban renewal in the 1950s, "4,729 businesses were forced to close, 2,500 households were pushed out of the neighborhood and 883 Victorian houses were demolished." The vast majority of them were black households and black businesses which were replaced with housing projects

I always got these bad vibes when I would drive up to Gainesville from fort Lauderdale and back. I never used to believe shyt like that, but "bad vibes" in the air are real. That distance between Orlando and South Florida on I-95 gets real spooky, mainly at night tho.
There's places in Florida that are probably a lot worse than Alabama and Louisiana as far as racist history goes. Matter fact, I can list a bunch of racist ass Florida towns off hand..

I usually stay in south Florida when I go. Orl is so watered down it's not real.
My 3rd eye is open and I FELT it. I told my wife as we were driving something ain't feel right and I was uneasy. They say trauma embeds itself in generations of DNA, I wonder if I had ancestors from that area cause most of my family came from Pensacola and Mobile.
It's crazy man cuz I from NY but got family in Florida and would go there every summer. I used to absolutely LOVE Florida and thought so highly of it. But then I grew up, I started working, started experiencing shyt, exploring different areas. Florida is like the best worst state lol. All it really has going for itself is the weather, the beach and Disney World, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Later century these cacs ran i95 through the heart of black Miami (overtown) ran the i4 through the heart of black Orlando (Parramore) and also ran 95 through sugar hill (Jacksonville) every time I drive on 95 going over the ramp that takes me to downtown Miami and I see the spaghetti junction (i395 and the other express ways) I always feel sad

White landowners controlled the economic power, selling cotton on their own schedule, running high-priced plantation stores where farmers had to buy seed and supplies, and failing to itemize their settlement of accounts with sharecroppers.[4]
The Progressive Farmers and Household Union of America had organized chapters in the Elaine area in 1918-19. On September 29, representatives met with about 100 black farmers at a church near Elaine to discuss how to obtain fairer settlements. Whites resisted union organizing and often spied on or disrupted such meetings. In a confrontation at the church, two whites were shot, one fatally. The sheriff called a posse and whites gathered to put down a rumored "black insurrection".[4] Other whites entered Phillips County to join the action, making a mob of 500 to 1000 whites. They attacked blacks on sight across the county. The governor called in 500 federal troops, who arrested nearly 260 blacks and were accused of killing some. Over a three-day period, five white men were killed and an estimated 100-240 blacks, with some estimates of more than 800 blacks killed. The events have been subject to debate, especially the total of black deaths.[4]

As long as black people live side by side with white folks we will never have peace. The "good" white people were always a small meaningless minority. Trump's Iselin to power tells us that white america is still as bigoted and racist as it was 100 years ago.I never knew about this.
