Here's the official Synopsis from the Studio. Hint at possible Rocky Health Problems:

"Creed" is the first Spin-Off and a continuation of the "Rocky" Franchise. Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there’s no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed’s legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa. Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.

Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring. With Rocky in his corner, it isn’t long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title…but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

Well he had health issues in "Rocky V", I wonder what the issue is now.

I do have a nice story one such discovery from Sundance two years ago. Even though I didn’t see it until Cannes, I have never been as moved by a Sundance winning film more than Fruitvale Station, which gutted me both times I watched it. I was so moved that I feel protective of writer/director Ryan Coogler and its star, Michael B. Jordan, and feel the need to head off the inevitable cynics who’ll question why they followed an indie triumph with what seems like the 38th installment of Rocky.

Production begins this week on Creed. Coogler directs MBJ in the title role of the son of Apollo Creed (you remember Carl Weathers), whose wealthy family doesn’t want him getting in the ring, because he doesn’t have to. He asks Rocky Balboa to train him. Here’s why it’s consistent with Sundance: it’s all about personal passion. As Coogler grew up, his father wanted him to believe in heroes and dreams. So he showed Ryan those first few Rocky movies so often that the son learned every nuance and damn near every line of dialogue. Ryan got a football scholarship which led to film, and then he wrote and directedFruitvale Station and won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize. His father struggled with ALS, and Ryan put all this personal experience into a script he wrote with Aaron Covington.

It’s his dream project and required him to charm Sly Stallone into dropping his guard on his signature movie character, to allow the indestructible Rocky to weather a life threatening health crisis.
I hear that for a long time, Stallone rejected the idea despite being implored by his reps. Finally, Sly’s wife Jennifer convinced him he would be crazy to shun a filmmaker exhibiting the kind of fire a young palooka showed back in the 70s, when Stallone wouldn’t sell his Rocky script unless he was the star. The cynics can marginalize Coogler and Jordan for using their Sundance capital to sell out, but they would be dead wrong.

If its ALS...he's probably gone brehs :mjcry:

I will say there is a *hint* in the trailer if you paid attention.

I watched Rocky IV on Netflix again and it still holds up. I don't know why people try to hate on that shyt. My only issue is that there were a couple too many training montages. It took up a lot of time but still enjoyable. The opening act is awesome. Creed is the former heavyweight champ, pretty much on the downside of his prime but definitely well respected.. he takes this fight to stay in the public eye and he knows Drago has only fought bums. You can tell early on that Drago is outclassed from a skills standpoint but once he catches Creed with one of those juiced up Russian hammers it's :damn: :damn:

lowkey Drago should have been DQ'd at the end of the first. He hit Creed a good 4-5 times after the bell. That shyt don't fly :birdman:

Jackson, Action, Pack Guns, Ridiculous.

Always loved that Big rapped that line over a Rocky Beat to show the connection to Carl Weathers. He was the man in the 80's. Love him in "Predator" also.

what happen?
OG draft had it that Rocky suffers from brain damage and becomes a vegetable;e or dies. His son, becomes a prize-fighter..this is all from the draft scripts though.
Stallone wanted to go with the brain damage storyline that was a direct connection to rocky 4 but studio's weren't having any of it..so part of the idea was left in and rest thrown out.
