always makes the hammer hate so ridiculous in hindsight...89-92 he was cakin and being called a sellout, a decade later rappers were endorsing whatever they could, pushing shytty clothing lines and being terrible actors in c-list movies...breh was a pioneer
Yes. That was back when hip hop still had artistic integrity.

Endorsements don’t have anything to do with artistic integrity. Making the music that’s true to you is artistic integrity
Hammer got backlash because his music was considered watered down.
I hear you about endorsements not having anything to do with artistic integrity generally, but there are certainly instances where you may not want your works of art associated with a particular product/commercial. So I can’t fully agree with that.
I also don’t agree with your definition of artistic integrity. What if making a watered down version of a musical genre is true to an artist? Under your definition they would have artistic integrity. I think it’s more complicated than that and can’t be purely subjective.

Integrity - adherence to morals or principles // honesty and sincerity

If your life experience lends to making bubblegum pop rap, that’s artistic integrity, it’s more sincere and honest than you making boom bap because some publication said boom bap “is that real”

Artistic integrity is making music that’s true to you, not the media, not what others expect, etc

This could be applied to any artist at any point in their career and could shift with time. It would essentially extinguish the idea of selling out.

I mean an artist knows when they’re selling out. Plenty of artists have stated they made certain songs or did a certain sound they didn’t like just to get a hit. I’ve personally never called anyone a sellout for their music, selling out is about stuff you’re doing IRL IMO.

However lots of people lack artistic integrity, like drake making tough guy talk with IYRTITL

Always found this roc brunch shyt corny as fukk

It's essentially just a networking event for everyone to post on their IG and brag about, like if they made it there they're the elite in hip hop or some shyt.
All-star, super bowl, Grammys, Oscars and on always had events and parties since forever - except that we’re in a social media era. I don’t think these so called big dogs are bragging rather theyre happy cause these respective weekends are like homecoming or Christmas in their respective business.

Also is networking events bad now? Black people connecting and spreading love instead of hating? First time I saw people hating on these events is when nikkas started having them, the c00nery never fails:wow:
