That’s the low key stuff that makes Roc a producer and not a beatmaker.

Edit: oops. Alchemist did that beat but my points stands. Roc puts so much thought into his adlibs and little extra details.

His catalogue as a solo emcee is largely underground though. I guess HNIC was a mainstream release (Loud Records) but the single (Keep It Thoro) had no hook, was just bars, and then Return of the Mac was a beloved indie release. Albert Einstein is one of the best underground albums of the 2010’s, and HNIC 2 and Hegelian Dialectic are definitely under appreciated underground gems.

So all of his solo albums and projects except for the very first one are all indie projects and even that first one had no mainstream formula to speak of for even the big single.

But I wouldn’t say go as far as saying he pioneered a new lane this decade in the way that Roc has.

But I’m posting these joints in celebration of their work together.
