I always imagined a Robotech trilogy concentrating on the Super Dimension Fortress Macross storyline. IMO, that one has the most Hollywood potential because they always want love stories and it has a pretty movie like arc.

It would best story to make, but it wouldn't be the best financial move.
Harmony Gold only has the rights to Macross (only Macross TV series) in the US, and they have made it difficult of all other Macross series to come to the US. Most Hollywood movies depend on their international revenue now, and the if a Robotech is release internationally and heavily relied on Macross it would get sued by tatsunoko or whoever owns the original Macross series (it's actually a complicated mess in Japan too).

this was disproven by an article in the Wonder Woman thread. Studios don't make much from China, which is usually the biggest overseas take, despite the big numbers. Merchandising is often limited as well, and the bigger star studded movies are the ones making the big overseas bank, and that is starting to fade.

Even breaks down Russia a little bit. Might have been on AVS forum or Hollywood reporter or something. Just came through my feed the other day. I knew it wasn't all gravy, but they made it seem like they were lucky to get that 25% at times because of fraud and over reporting.

Anyways, back to Robotech. Watching it over again for the first time in about 10 years. If they can somehow get the rights together, the first season alone is easily a trilogy. Its a little silly at times, but it would play over well with a diverse cast, the all female crew and intimidating Aliens. Plenty of action, a little romance and the Valykyries and Zentradi being identifiable symbols for the franchise.
