NYCC 2012: "Robotech" Panel Report - Toon Zone News

Many questions were asked about the status of the live-action movie. McKeever said that they were still working on the script, since the Robotech franchise is so dependent on getting story and character right. As a result, there is no information about who would direct the movie, who would be in it, or what the mecha would look like. He did want to make sure that everyone understood one thing:

So, repeat after me: Tobey Maguire is attached only to produce the movie, and the rumors that he will be playing Rick Hunter are not true. Until the script is finished, discussions about directors, actors, or mecha design are way too premature. McKeever did add later that Warner Brothers is looking at Robotech as comparable to the Harry Potter franchise, so they’ll ultimately make as much Robotech live-action as they think the market can stand.

Questions about Robotech video games tied into the status of the live-action movie, since the rights to games on all platforms (PC, console, and iOS/Android portable) currently belong to Warner Bros. McKeever expects that they will begin rolling out when the movie comes closer to reality, and that Warner will have more power to attract an A-list game development studio to make a good Robotech game.

It just occured to me why it's taking so long for this to be made into film.

Robotech is still essentially a love story and a musical with war and robots serving as just the backdrop. If Hollywood can't get the love story or the music right, they better not make that shyt.

"All of the Macross series have three elements at their core: First, a war or conflict, featuring transforming mecha; second, a love story, typically in triangular form; third, music, as a force for cultural change. The ratio of these three elements varies within each entry in the franchise."

Macross: A short guide for new Delta viewers who want to know if they need to watch anything else first. • /r/anime

I still haven't finished watching Macross Frontier and now they already have OVAs.

A new series is out, called Macross Delta.

If you're not interested in the music parts or heavy romance of Macross/Robotech, then Macross Zero is your best bet. This shyt had the best aircraft combat I've seen in an anime.

Here we mothafukking go again.

‘It’ Director Andy Muschietti to Helm ‘Robotech’ for Sony

While his highly anticipated movie version of Stephen King’s “It” doesn’t bow for another two months, Andy Muschietti looks to have already found his follow-up, attaching himself to Sony’s adaptation of “Robotech.”

Muschietti’s creative partner Barbara Muschietti will join Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton in producing the project, which is based on the 1980s cartoon series from Harmony Gold USA and Japan’s Tatsunoko Productions.

The story is set in a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology of an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific island and is now using that technology to fight off an impending alien invasion.

The property has attracted everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to James Wan over the years. Sony now hopes Muschietti can finally push it into production.

Sanford Panitch and Matthew Milam are overseeing for Columbia.

Muschietti broke onto the scene with his horror hit “Mama” starring Jessica Chastain. He was then tasked with replacing Cary Fukunaga as director on Warner Bros.’ adaptation of “It,” which is now one of the most anticipated movies of the fall.

He is repped by WME.
