The only way to reboot the franchise is to is to have Freddy pass on the torch and trap someone with his curse. Sort of where they were going in with 5. Hell, they can make it Jacob. It defeats the purpose of it being Freddy, but it's really the only way to extend it because Robert Englund IS Freddy It's more than just a character, it's his entre performance, his gracefulness, his creepy vibe, his imposing stature. 1 - Gave us why Freddy did it
3 - The last of the Elm Street children. Revenge against the mob is over BUT....
4 - Kirsten pulls people into her dreams, so passes on her power so that he can hunt outside of the Elm Street kids
5 - Continuing to hunt outside of the Elm St kids via Alice and her unborn
6 - Grew so powerful that he hunted all of the kids and had the town in a trance.
FvJ - Eventually they found a way to defeat him, by suppressing dreams and letting his legacy fade from memory, so he uses Jason to get them scared again via adults
Reboot - could be him finding a teen or adult with ties to Freddy, serial killer vibe and haunting him through his dreams and somehow trapping him with his soul or dream demons. That way they can build on the legacy of Freddy, establish a different type of dream killer and ake the character something completely different. It may still fail, but one things for certain is that any other reboot of Freddy will definitely fail.

They just need to reboot it again. Just drop a new Freddy movie every 10 years. Just to keep him alive. Us 80s babies need Freddy in our lives. It'll def recoup it's money, I don't understand the hold up
