2 n 3 were horrible. I'm down for 4. I'm down for Thor 3 also. Thor 2 was horrendous. Marvel has the resources to avoid terrible films.

RDJ probably pulls up to Marvel meetings bumping this:

I'm not surprised to see him say Mel Gibson.
Iron Man 2: he brought in Justin Theroux to write the screenplay after working with him on Tropic Thunder that caught him an Oscar nomination.
Iron Man 3: he brought in Shane Black to write/direct after working with him on Kiss Kiss Bang Bang which was the role he based his entire Tony Stark performance on.
Iron Man 4: he tries to bring in Mel Gibson after working with him on The Singing Detective which was RDJ's first role as a leading man again after his decade long fall-off.
It might not have helped making the movies any better but RDJ wants to share his winnings with the people who've played a big part in his comeback. Can't fault him for that.
