When I was still in high school I found my dad's Best of Roy Ayers CD. He never got it back. I was playing it all the time. He used to joke that he could hear me struggle singing You Send Me when I was playing it through my headphones
I got into the music initially because I wanted to hear the originals of the samples I loved but I became a huge fan of Roy. It was great how he embraced hip hop and was appreciative of the producers who used his work. A lot of musicians don't understand how sampling keeps their music alive and introduces people to their music.
