Baseball's "Man of Steal," Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson is dead after a bout with pneumonia ... TMZ has learned.

Rickey also had a 9.9 WAR season in 1985 with the Yankees.

Scored 146 runs to lead the majors that year, 80 steals, hit .314, All Star, Silver Slugger, and finished third in the MVP voting.

He was very highly regarded when he played, but would be even more so if he played after more acceptance of sabermetrics.

He would probably have multiple MVPs, and more close finishes.
