You must understand, Prince was everything to me. This artist defined my youth, my vision, my dreams. He made see the potential of art and greatness. I played his music before, during, and after school, at my wedding, when I was happy, when I was sad. I played his music LOUDLY in the U-Haul truck as I drove from Minneapolis to LA to become an actress. I created art inspired by him, dance, sang cheered to him. My father always got major cool points from me because he had been Prince's high school principal (that's still so cool dad). It was Prince who put Minnesota, hence me, on the map. He gave my dreams validity. Though I only met him in person a couple times, his influence on me was profound. He, through example, gave me the courage to leave my beloved Minnesota and pursue my dreams. He showed me that there was a path to a great big world. He gave my dreams LIGHT. I am so grateful that I shared time and space with him in this lifetime and I'm broken inside today because it's hard to fathom this planet without him on it. This day and always I celebrate him and send his spirit love and tremendous gratitude for the affect he had on me and so many others of my generation and beyond. RIP dear Prince, you've done so, so, so well.
