Nude Rehearsal: Just the name of the tour, don't get at me, I didn't name the tour.
Recorded at Paisley Park, Prince was notorious on doing show run throughs unlike anyone in Pop Music. He would make sure everyone was on beat,on measure, choreography, he was the TASK MASTER . Something to understand about Prince, the amazing accidents WERE intentional most of the time. HE intuitively knew when to pepper his show with the moments that people talked about. His mind was able to handle from the viewpoint of someone watching the concert.
For people who don't know, Paisley Park has a soundstage as big as an AIR HANGAR. Prince was able to do complete run throughs without leaving anywhere. So in turn the band never really went anywhere. The interesting thing about this rehearsal, there's a 30 minute run through of this drum machine syncopated/minimal synth note b -side "Sex" But he never played it live ever.
At one point they start quoting "Humpty Dance lines" from Digital Underground. The interesting side to this glimpse into Prince is his dedication to a obscure B side. During the run through one of the sound crew or band members places a James Brown sample of him saying "Funky" And Prince says "We need to keep that & could you add some bells" He toys around with this fukking song for close to 40 minutes (maybe even more). At one point he says to the rapper, "Hey Tony, we can't be saying lines we didn't write" It's fascinating to hear how close this song was to being performed & just to listen it being fleshed out for possible inclusion to this tour. While Prince is singing these lines, he's visualizing a dance routine from his backup dancers and instructing them what could be possible.
2 n half hours of Rehearsals with quotes like "I hate Philly, we aren't playing there ever"
I posted a little bit of this rehearsal a week ago, this is the whole rehearsal that this mixcloud member posted. That drum machine rhythm you hear on "Future" can't be shut off. On 1999 & Housequake it keeps going, that must have annoyed Prince to no end listening to that.
If you listen to some tour shows, you will hear the drum machine glitching to the beat of "Future" on a few songs. but Prince tells the sound crew "whats up with this drum machine?" "If that happens live, you gotta have a b plan" Plan B was to ignore it and just have the drummer & band ignore it, hoping that Prince doesn't fine you or fire you. That drum machine was stuck like a mutha. Gestapo Prince had a New Power vision & if you fell short, you had to lay down your funky weapon & leave the complex.
Come to think of it, i bet someone in the sound crew made that machine fukk up on purpose because Prince had a habit of being mean to the sound crew & employees. That's how they got back at him.

I have a feeling the sound crew probably got tired of hearing Prince do Purple Rain 25 times a week in tour rehearsal. Thank god that's not the only album he had.
