Oh trust, I KNOW.

I was always in a weird position because guys wanted to get married because they thought I was pretty, or because of my family. Like, legit “wouldn’t it be great if our families united” conversations. I’ll probably end up marrying someone who is in the same frat as some of my family because he’s also in the same field as some of my other relatives 😩. And the problem is he probably already had this sh!t planned out before I even realized it 😭 (although he’s perfect in every way).

I won’t even lie, I haven’t even begun to live up to my family’s rep, but simply because of what I’ve learned and watching them move, I don’t reaaally stress because they already charted the path.

I’m in a weird space because my mom was a princess who was able to get by on her looks and family name, while everyone else decided to grind it out to essentially continue the legacy (in a sense). It’s part of my frustration with her, part of why I’m stressed (because I worry about her since she didn’t remarry) and a reason for my soul-searching because she was literally given so much and she took it for granted. But she had the privilege to do that.
It’s a mix of her being a little troubled so family helped her, but I can tell she got so used to it she knew it wouldn’t end. So she pretty much raised me to do the same. But life doesn’t work like that! And it feels weird to only be valued for what you look like. It’s actually made me more independent than I should be because I hate the idea of people thinking I’m incapable.

And that’s the thing with KS’s message. He wasn’t wrong at all, and there are definitely unrealistic women out there! But people always want to talk about women getting married; very few people talk about what women may go through in these “high value” circles and why the women who maintain careers may have better outcomes than the housewives. The pressure to keep up appearances and pretend things aren’t bothering you when you know your daughter may grow up to go through some of the same sh!t… When you’ve ACTUALLY witnessed some sh!t you are in no rush to get down the aisle. Being a REAL wife/mother is never-ending and thankless and you can still get dropped for the younger model.

Makes you question religion and what they teach us and why, because most of those vows and teachings aren’t followed. So when you realize it’s really all about keeping society civil and organized…You look at all of it differently.

I’m rambling. A lot of this stuff is just people being pretentious and not actually about building the community.

Another good post....I am glad you broke that down....some think they want that type of life....they do not...
it is as the person asking "why did he jump off the building when the market crashed".....
being broke or starting over or FAILING is hell for some people....
parties, schools, golf clubs all gone...
There was a thread about some rich folks in long island who lost their mansion....
they were able to buy back some of the old furniture.....
they seemed so happy.....because the furniture was handed down from long ago....
"keeping society civil and organized" describes it perfectly....
I will be paying attention to your posts though...
Far too many seek to be as all others for comfort....
The individuals should be celebrated...
Yet realistic...

Naw, it was the delivery. We’re talking about a community where many of the women didn’t grow up with dad in the house. A lot of our women didn’t get that “tough love” from a man growing up and don’t know how to receive it as an adult. I personally have no issue with men who spoke like KS because I have nothing but strong-willed accomplished Black men in my family who will dress you down if you get out of order, even as an adult.

Which is why I’m cool with tough men in the workplace and prefer male trainers/instructors.

The diff is I know where to go for tough love and guidance that includes a hug and genuine concern for my well-being.

My military uncle will yell at me and tell me I’m getting fat, so I go kill it in the gym. He doesn’t play crazy music making fun of fat women on the internet for the world to see when correcting me.

The women also suffered from low self-esteem to even consider calling in to a YouTube channel to ask for advice on the world stage. Anonymity is priceless.
Thats my issue with dude. All I saw from him was harshness at the end. The end game had zero healing. It had a cruelty that many seem to nourish and as KS background revealed itself, the harshness made sense.

Theres tough love but it always should come with caring for that party’s feelings. Dude said things out of shame while himself having a subpar resume until his grift paid. That aint helping anyone but him and nourishing those who are just as bitter and need to feel tall by hearing others get cut down.

Why she had to shyt on all Black Men? Just because she called into his show on the wrong day and got roasted?
:martin:
I won’t even get mad at that because I remember the Black pastor on Married at First Sight said that none of the Black men wanted to be matched with Black women. Brothas have shytted on us on TV already 😐

I never understood the Kevin Samuels controversy. From the few videos I watched of his about 50 to 60% of what he was saying was true.

I guarantee you that most of the women criticizing Kevin Samuels are fans of The Bachelor or don't have a problem with the show even though The Bachelor promotes the same beauty bias that Kevin Samuels did. 90% of the Bachelor's female contestants are under the age of thirty-five, childless, above average looking, and are in shape. This Beauty standard that the female contestants must meet in order to compete for a desirable Bachelor is no different than the beauty standard Kevin Samuels told women that they must meet to get a desirable bachelor.

Matter of fact a lot of Black women celebrated when the Bachelorette cast a Black woman even though the show completely discriminated against black women for decades.
