Damn. RIP to the GOAT football announcer Spent so many years of my youth playing the greatest video game ever created in your namesake. Looked forward to those All Madden specials every year. Can't leave out the Turducken on Thanksgiving. Can't say I'm surprised since he didn't look too great during the documentary that aired on Christmas. Sleep easy King

Had a strange feeling when i turned to fox on sunday and caught them talking about madden. I was like "aw naw, i hope madden didnt pass away", then i saw they were talkin about a documentary about him, only for him to pass away soon after

Stuff like that Madden doc would usually sit on my DVR for weeks before I watched it but for some reason I went ahead and watched it this weekend and it's probably why the news that he passed hit me in a way I wouldn't have expected. He seemed old and not as with it in the doc but not like a guy who would may be gone tomorrow.

Between being a great coach, broadcaster and the video games, what one man has done more for the popularity of the NFL than John Madden?

The answer is no one

I'd even wager that franchise mode in his early games helped establish or significantly boost fantasy football..which is now damn near the only reason why some people follow the sport at all

Now I dont know if that was his idea..and it's likely another video game did it first, but i remember drafting in like madden 95, 96 or 97 on sega
