The name of the game is touring. Turning your tour into a whole ass entertainment show is where its at. The problem is most of your favorite rappers cannot afford to tour as the costs are very expensive. So they end up doing promotions at nightclubs where they get into trouble or shot at. Sad reality.

Correct.

Most of these artists are waiting to get paid off the show rather than having resources to get sets built, hire a band/dancers, rent tons of production equipment, find people to assemble/break down/drive it around, get merch designed/produced, find a dedicated rehearsal space, find a creative director — and then be focused enough to put this into action.

Lazy and no money is the real reason.

And even if you don’t have the resources for a mid tier or large scale show, all of this can be done in smaller venues with a decent amount of imagination.

Nothing is stopping an artist from buying their own 70ft wide (or larger) LED screen and using that as a back drop and finding a good designer to put stuff on it.

so if an artists has established themselves with an audience, WHY THE fukk WOULD THEY SIGN INTO INDENTURED SERVITUDE???
you need assistance to go nation wide or global (50 cent, drake, beyonce, rihanna, taylor swift, weeknd, Travis Scott, etc.)

blame soulja boy
Soulja boy had wrote hit songs, made the beats and uploaded to soundclick. Then shot videos and did vlogs on a burgeoning video sharing platform entitled youtube. Once he did that every label got rid of they R&D team.

10 years late. The music industry died in 2014. One platinum dropped in 2014 before streaming became a thing. Taylor Swift was the only artist to release a new album that year and have it go platinum.

Cole went platinum, unless you meant albums that were certified in 2014 specifically.
