I've been running through every movie that I own, and I watched Hurt Locker 2 days ago. I was like How TF is this best picture, but it's cool. It's not as bad as Crash.

2001- A Beautiful Mind - I think this was deserved.
2002- Chicago - it's okay. It's pretty much a stage play, but I don't think all stage plays translate well into movies. The Pianist was good, but like you, I'd given it to Two Towers
2003- Return of the King - correct
2004- Million Dollar Baby - Hell no, but probably the best of the noms. The obvious omission was Eternal Sunshine
2005- Crash - naaah. I agree ith Munich
2006-The Departed - This actually gets better each time I watch it. However, I did not watch Babel until this run, and that's a hell of a movie. Had it won, I would also agree.
2007- No Country for Old Men - not really a fan. I feel that There Will Be Blood was easily better
2008- Slumdog Millionaire - OK, but it should've been Benjamin Button.
2009- The Hurt Locker - Another one that's just okay. Inglorious Basterds or Up
2010- The King's Speech - It's actually good, but I'd go with True Grit
2011- The Artist - Should've been Hugo. Hugo is another I never fully watched until this week. I was like WOW, mesmerized through the entire thing.
2012- Argo - I love this movie. No complaints here
2013- 12 Years a Slave - Since it won, I'll say fine, but I felt all of the nominees this year were on the same level
2014- Birdman - I thoroughly enjoyed this. No complaints
2015- Spotlight - pretty good, but Mad Max & The Martian were better. I don't like The Revenant
2016- Moonlight - NAH! This movie was barely tolerable. Manchester by the Sea or Fences
2017- The Shape of Water - Another HELL NO!! Dunkirk easily
2018- Green Book - nope. BlacKkKlansman
2019- Parasite - Ehhh. Should've been The Irishman
2020- Except for Judas and the Black Messiah, I didn't see any of them, so I can't say anything.
2021- I'll watch King Richard, CODA, The Power of Dog & Belfast this weekend.

Except a couple of movies we have the opposing views especially on certain movies. I don't see the brilliance in the Artist. It's a Gimmick movie that feels empty, and Birdman is just a long inside joke about Hollywood :yeshrug:

I don't like The Artist. My comment was about Hugo.

Birdman the entire "one-shot" method was dope, and all of the acting was great. Plus, I liked the dark comedy take.

My bad I thought you were giving all that praise to the Artist.
I absolutely agree on Hugo. If it didn't flop at the box office it would've won best picture

2006 The Departed- a hell of a movie. I knew while watching the movie that Scorsese was finally going to win Best Director. hands down deserved it

2007 No Country for Old Men- although I have issues with this movie I can't deny the top notch filmmaking in this film. My vote would have went to There Will Be Blood, but by no means is No Country a bad pick.

2008- Slumdog Millionaire- The Dark Knight year lol. This movie is ugh. Danny Boyle is a talented director, but man this is a piece of crap. The dance sequence at the end is cringe. Out of the nominees Benjamin Button would get my vote.

2009- The Hurt Locker- not a bad movie just overrated. To be honest I don't remember anything memorable about this movie. This did not deserve best pic. Avatar would have been my pick hands down or Inglorious b*stards.

2010 The King's Speech- This is one of those movies that I thought would be a snooze fest, but it's actually pretty good and surprisingly entertaining. In a year with Toy Story 3, The Social Network, and The Fighter its no way in hell it deserved to win.
Agreed on Slumdog Millionaire. I thought it was just solid and that’s it. Loved Dev Patel’s performance, the cinematography, but didn’t love it that much to be content with a Best Picture win. I honestly forgot about it until I read your post!

:dead: at marketing this as a feel-good film when majority of the story was actually depressing. If this was feel-good, then so was (500) Days of Summer and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. :russ:

I think that's when they were on their "We got to start noticing foreign-born" casts kick. Hmmm...I think I'm gonna do every year I've been alive now.

2016 The Shape of Water- technically impressive, but on whole it was ok. I had problems with the editing, and it seem like they filmmakers were trying to shoehorn the "message" of the movie instead of letting it flow organically

2017 Moonlight- masterpiece- there's only one movie I would put above this film. The cinematography. the way music was used throughout the movie, the characters were intriguing. Great choice considering La La Land was this close to winning.

2018 Green Book- cringe movie with some great acting. Sigh. Its not necessarily a bad movie just cringeworthy moments through out.

2019- Parasite wow just wow. a masterpiece. My favorite type of movies are the ones you go in the story not knowing what to expect. This movie delivered on all level. Well deserved best picture winner.

2020 Nomadland- I thought it was a fine movie, but I thought to myself I would never watch it again. The positive about this movie it gives you an insight into a segment of America that does not get a lot of shine. Judas and The Black Messiah, Promising Young Woman, and Trial of Chicago 7 would have gotten my vote.

Slumdog Millionaire felt like a watered down version of City of God in certain segments of the movie. I might have to give it a re watch
