Naw bruh, I basically telling that:troll:the Jets have a good defense too and a suspect qb just like 49ers do.

This Emp seems to think there is some major difference:aicmon:

There is Sanchez is awful and Alex is a smart qb who can play the game and help his team win

Call me when Sanchez is a 60% passer and ranks top 10 in qb rating

Your a disillusioned moron, I only speak facts unless you want to debate them keep quiet young boy

If you would only STFU and stop trolling Jets threads, we wouldn't have this bullshyt in our threads.

You look like a clown comparing a 7 year player to a 3 year player. And still, as bad as you clown Sanchez, he has still accomplished more than Alex going into his 4th year and his 8th year.

I don't give a fukk about completion percentage when you are a dink and dunker. Sanchez as bad as he may be still threw for 9 more TD's than Alex (26). Actually, Sanchez has almost as many TD's in 3 years than Alex does in 7. He also has gotten to the AFC championship game twice in his 1st 2 years. Took Alex 7 years to get to just 1 game.

They're 2 QB's in the same mold...the only difference is one has been coddled his entire career and has been given 7 years of chances while the other will be dumped after his 4th year.

Stop trolling Jets threads so we don't have Jets fans coming here trying to troll us.

Offensive Line, no need to worry
Niners' Protection Issues Not Really a Concern | NBC Bay Area

The San Francisco 49ers’ performance Saturday night in a 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans was not a highlight-filled affair.

San Francisco had trouble offensively sustaining any momentum, special teams gave up a long punt return that sealed the exhibition-game loss and the main concern after the game was for the health of running backs Brandon Jacobs and LaMichael James, who had to be helped from the field.

Fortunately for the 49ers, both running backs appear to have avoided major injury, according to reports Sunday and Monday.

Another concern that surfaced Saturday night was over the 49ers’ offensive line and its inability to protect starting quarterback Alex Smith.

Smith played just the first quarter Saturday night, yet was sacked twice and hit hard at least five times, according to the Sacramento Bee’s Matt Barrows, who reviewed film from the game.

Suddenly, the line’s ability to protect Smith – or any other San Francisco quarterback – became a talking point.

Yet the issue is probably more of a non-issue.

The offensive line, after all, is 80 percent intact from last season, with only Alex Boone at right guard the new starter among a group that proved to be a solid unit in 2011 when the 49ers went 13-3 and advanced to the NFC Championship Game.

Though Smith was sacked 44 times over 16 games last season, Smith also had his best season in the NFL and threw just five interceptions. In a sign of maturity, Smith often took sacks rather than throw the ball up for grabs.

Remember the 49ers’ opening exhibition game against the Saints last season in New Orleans, when Niners QBs were chased all over the Super Dome and sacked six times? That, too, sent up warning flags about the offensive line, yet that unit – tackles Joe Staley and Anthony Davis, guards Mike Iupati and Adam Snyder and center Jonathan Goodwin – eventually came together to rank as one of the top run-blocking lines in the league.

Though Smith had some rough days on the field – six sacks by the Cowboys, five by the Bengals and Cardinals and a whopping nine by blitz-happy Baltimore in a Thanksgiving night loss to the Ravens – Smith also went through long stretches with great protection last season. In one six-game stretch at midseason, the 49ers line allowed just seven sacks.

Saturday, Smith said many of the problems with the Texans’ rush were his own doing rather than the line’s.

“Really felt like the offensive line played great,” Smith told Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, saying many of the hits were “self-inflicted by me” because of mixups during plays.

Barrows, too, in reviewing the film from Saturday’s game, wrote, “The line mostly, but not always, was sound. Smith, and the play calls, accounted for most of the hits.”

All things considered, the pressures and sacks on Smith Saturday night were just exhibition-season blips that shouldn’t be an ongoing regular-season issue.

Aldon Smith, Walker back on practice field

ANTA CLARA -- Outside linebacker Aldon Smith, who sustained a right hip bruise in the 49ers' exhibition opener Aug. 10, was back in pads on the practice field Monday.

Smith who spent much of last week on crutches looks as if he has a strong chance to get playing time Sunday in the 49ers' exhibition game at the Denver Broncos.

Tight end Delanie Walker also returned to the practice field after missing a week after sustaining a right knee injury in the team's open practice Aug. 12 at Candlestick Park.

meh, dont care for the article. tries to sugar coat what really isnt a good line in terms of protection. we had a pretty decent schedule last year and teams that had good pass rush were feasting on us (girls, bengals...and ravens just massacred chilo and davis on the right, cards had a few)...except that article makes it seem like in other games we were facing good blitzing teams....

I still dont understand picking aj jenkins who might not even be active for the season over a real RG or a WR who might actually stick on the roster...

the line combined with alex is just not a good mix. even worse with anyone not mobile at qb. people want to see tolzien play but can you imagine that dude behind our line ? a qb with no mobility cannot play behind our line right now, plain and simple.

Im not trying to yell sky is falling, but unlike secondary, where I feel we finally have some talent that is ready to step up (well, mainly just Cox :jawalrus: nh but still), the line is basically rookies and average ass dudes at best in terms of pass protection

Iupati is a monster and staley is solid as well. We'll be fine. We need to run a lot of slants and dumpoffs if u wanna keep defenses honest. Also shotgun helps too.

staley is average, slightly above average at best...iupati is a fukking monster in run blocking (when he pulls Im like :wow:), but also average at best in pass proteciton
goodwin is not getting any younger and also weak at pass pro. so while the left side is a bit better the center and the right side are a huge question, much more so than WR or QB at this point.

Im tellin yall, this line better have some tricks up their sleeves. also doesnt help anthony davis keeps fukking up and hes locked up long term :snoop:

Stop it, Davis isn't that bad

Watch that game back and you'll see it wasn't the line just getting blown up

I know our line isnt the greatest it it's not that bad, even Alex would say he was responsible for a lot of them sacks

They play 2 different positions, but I get where you're going.

Iupati is top 5 in his position though and was the highest guard coming out in that draft.

Davis was the 3rd or 4th tackle rated in that draft. AD can be very good, I think the line will be just fine. If you noticed a lot of that Texan pressure came from blitzes, Frank wasn't in much and he is great at blitz pickup.

To me it was exactly like the Saints game last pre-season, no one expected them to blitz like that in pre-season so we weren't ready for it.

I agrer with the blitzing. Preseason people usually play vanilla defense but houston was goin at it. I think we'll be much better once the season starts protection-wise

Jacobs & LMJ to be ready for season opener.
San Francisco 49ers expect RB Brandon Jacobs to be ready for opener - ESPN

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Brandon Jacobs balanced himself on crutches walking through the San Francisco 49ers locker room. LaMichael James strolled through with a backpack and a smile.

What at first looked like at least one -- if not two -- long-term injuries for San Francisco's newest running backs in Saturday's 20-9 preseason loss at the Houston Texans on Saturday suddenly doesn't seem so bad.

"I'm doing all right," Jacobs said as he walked by reporters. "Can't complain."

Neither can anybody else on San Francisco's side.

Coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that Jacobs' left knee could be healthy enough for him to start the regular-season opener for San Francisco at Green Bay on Sept. 9. James, the team's second-round pick out of Oregon, said he is ready to practice already after injuring his left ankle and riding a cart off the field in the fourth quarter at Houston.

Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson barreled helmet-first into Jacobs' knee for a tackle in the first quarter Saturday. The big, burly Jacobs -- a two-time Super Bowl winner with the New York Giants -- rolled over, his knee bent awkwardly, and he lay on the ground for more than a minute until Harbaugh helped him limp off the field.

While Jacobs hobbled around slowly at the 49ers' sunny Silicon Valley headquarters, that's about the best he and the team could have hoped for given what was first feared.

"Brandon for the opener is possible," Harbaugh said. "Again, we just have to see how the treatment goes, how the body responds."

Now 30 years old, Jacobs ran for 571 yards and seven touchdowns last season as a backup to Ahmad Bradshaw. He is the fourth-leading rusher in Giants history with 4,849 yards, but saw his role diminish with the emergence of Bradshaw.

The 6-foot-4 Jacobs -- who lost about 15 pounds to meet his offseason goal of dropping to about 260 -- had been counted on to take over in short-yardage situations. All four of his rushes in the preseason opener against Minnesota led to a 49ers first down, and by all accounts he had been ready to lighten the load on three-time Pro Bowler Frank Gore.

"Brandon is good," Gore said. "I'm happy that it wasn't that serious. He'll be back in a week or two. He'll be fine."

James already is back to work.

He also declined to talk to reporters at length -- typical for injured 49ers players -- but said he could practice again if needed. James' left ankle remained planted when 49ers tackle Derek Hall fell on him while the running back was blocking in the fourth quarter. He was carted off the field.

James, the 61st overall pick in this year's NFL draft, rushed for 5,082 yards and 53 touchdowns on 771 career carries in three seasons with the Ducks, who beat Stanford in Harbaugh's final year with the Cardinal in 2010 and again last season to capture the Pac-12 title.

He joined Gore, Jacobs, Kendall Hunter and Rock Cartwright as part of a retooled running back group for the reigning NFC West champions this offseason and is also an electric returner.

San Francisco plays at Denver on Sunday for its third of four preseason games.

Yeah, like I said you watch that game and it wasn't DE's beating guys off the jump, it was blitzes getting there. They were doing what NO did last year, not to the same extent, but it yielded the same result.

This group is the same group as last season and there really was only 2 games where I felt that line was overwhelmed. AZ the 2nd time and Baltimore.
