hammer used to stay talkin slick about NY when he came out.

because NYC particularly RUSH MANAGEMENT headed by LYOR and RUSSELL SIMMONS was the first to throw shade at Hammer.

They had an opportunity to book him to be on tours for acts like Run DMC...Slick Rick etc.

But was offering "pennies' when Hammer knew his stage show could blow those "two turntables and a microphone" dudes out the water..

along with the fact RUN made a slick remark about not havibg "dancing azz nikkaz" on tour after having a previous issue with Dougie Fresh. ...

RUN DMC and thier management was known for trying to blackball acts from upstaging them..

Doug e fresh addresses this in this song at the :50 mark

along with the fact you had deejays affiliated with RUSH such as 98.7 kiss deejay CHUCK CHILLOUT and others basically banning HAMMER from thier playlist....

HAMMER had a right to "defend himself"

Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!

[Verse 1]
Now your party wasn't jumping and your DJ was weak
Instead of dope beats, he was spinnin them Z's
All the fly girls who came with a beat in mind
They all up against the wall like a welfare line
Do you think for one minute that this is it?
Your party is bogus, Yo it ain't legit
You better PUT on the hammer, And you will be rewarded
My beat is ever boomin, And you know I get it started
Get it started!

Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!

[Verse 2]
Now get up out your seat because my beat is so complete
I'm movin everybody from A to Z
And when it comes to straight up rockin, I'm second to none
From Doug E. Fresh to (LL) or DJ (Run)

They say hammer how you do it? I got it like that
My posse's ever rollin', We keep it in tact
Just PUT on the hammer, And you will be rewarded
My beat is ever boomin', And you know I get it started

Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!

[Verse 3]
Now, a lot of b-boys make em dance, Yo they fakin the beat
They hip hop on the outside put rock underneath
Before the show gets started, They shakin they boots
My posse in the end cold displayin the troops
Like a trooper, I'm down cold hooked on the drugs
808 SB12'S are expirin africans
Just put on the hammer, And you will be rewarded
My beat is ever boomin, And you know I get it started

Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!

[Verse 4]
They said it couldn't happen, that rap wouldn't last
The beat is in effect like the oil in your gas
Cause it's makin lots of money from top to bottom
Whatever in effect, Yo, B-boys have got em
Nobody knows how a rapper really feels
A mind full of rhymes, and a tongue of steel
Just put on the hammer, and you will be rewarded
My beat is ever boomin, and you know I get it started

Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!
Let's get it started!

It was only a matter of time,...
Till you made the biggest mistake of them all.
You're a hammer fan and tried to give me a rant on hammer.

I gotta agree with this post.....no disrespect to the god Art Barr

but MC HAMMER made a significant contribution to hip hop in terms of Showmanship and Marketing

you can call him a sellout all u want...

but his brand had opened numerous avenues for rappers after him to make $$$ in the mainstream media

you can ask Fab 5 Freddy about how MC HAMMER got the heads at Viacom/MTV to see Rap Music as more than just a novelty genre and make it worthy of it's videos being seen in the Pop Music spectrum..

Can't forget the fact that MC HAMMER employed numerous black folks from the Bay area and NEVER FORGOT HIS GRASSROOTS or the debt he owed to the numerous black media outlets such as BET, Urban radio and black promoters who gave him a chance from the start

Also Hammer never exploited his relationship with one of the biggest kingpins out of the Bay Area...

Lil Darryl Reed who is still serving time in prison to this day....

HAMMER made good wholesome fun dance rap....without relying on street cred or using publicity stunts to garner attention

the kids loved him!

he let his talent speak for itself....

so what he wasn't a multisyllable double entrende spitter :manny:

neither was RUN DMC :yeshrug:

dude was a entertainer!!!!......nothing more nothing less

and was a significant part of the Golden Era regardless if we choose to acknowledge it or not
