“We’re seeing a wider understanding that these were never good jobs and they were never livable jobs,” said Rebecca Givan, a professor of labor studies and employment relations at Rutgers University. “In many cases, the pay is below a living wage and the hours are inconsistent and insufficient. If anything, the pandemic has made retail jobs even less sustainable than they already were.”

Complete unfiltered ether :wow:

As they should!

$10 is a laughable wage ANYWHERE!! Unless you’re on section 8, $10 will not get you an apartment ANYWHERE!!

You get up and leave your family for 8+ hrs everyday, you should be paid a livable salary. Period.

Then they should go to school and have a strong major or do a trade. Ain't nobody stopping them....

Sadly a lot of us haves been brainwashed into thinking that life should be this way
A man can never drink his fill by waiting in line for the tap.

how will they support themselves while doing it?
the same dead end jobs they are working
things aren't always that simple when you get stuck in a regiment

Gotta have a lifeplan before you finish HS....otherwise this is the path for a majority of people...

They should have some kind of financial aid or grants they can apply for depending on what they are going for....

Point is, all this should have been thought about in your teens, not at 20+....

a lot of people are dumb
however at the same time, we were all pretty much young and dumb in our teens
how I imagined adult life and life after childhood was distorted by the naivety of my childhood like many people
in other words, we are expected to make major life decisions as children with no actual real life experience

STEMGang doesn't have this problem...
Its not that easy. I see stories of people having to take shyt from cacs, Indians and ricecacs all day in the tech sector.

Even stories of cacs hating that they're basically trapped in engineering because they don't have the skills or education to do anything else that will pay them that much.

If one good thing came out of covid its that people got a taste of what its like to live on a reasonable wage and don't want to go back. If democrats were smart they'd take this momentum and use it for Medicare for all and a federal increase in the minimum wage.

The extra money people will make will go right back into the economy

I get what you are saying, but there has to be a scale for unskilled work as well. You can’t have unskilled labor making poverty wages just because they haven’t or can’t go to college.
