I really hope X can pull through this. It's always hard losing people young, rappers no less. X may be 50, but for many people who grew up in the 90s/00s, X's music personified an aspect of our lives. Riding a quad listening to Ruff Ryders Anthem... listening to Party Up.... or dealing with dark moments in "Slippin" or "What these B's Want." You could go to an X song to resonate a certain emotion or get you through some hard time. It's not unlike some of the greatest to ever do it - Hov, Pac, BIG, Nas, etc etc etc
Unlike those slain young, this hits different. X could never escape the drugs despite all the efforts taken by him and the support system he's had via RR. There's always been this level of pain he's never been able to put away.
The world was robbed of DMX's full potential. DMX was robbed of his full potential. He was what Tupac was to many on the West.... a poet, a preacher, a rapper, an actor, a complicated personality. That was X to a T. But his troubles prevented him from fully capitalizing on an acting career. It shortened what could have been a decently long rap career.
His legacy forever lives on thru Ruff Ryders, Eve, Swizz Beatz, LOX, and many others he's influenced. Let's hope he can make it out of this very grave state.
