So what happens to Congress in the meantime, breh? :dahell:

If we're keeping it 100. Nothing of significance is being passed in the House anyway, so we really don't need them to govern :yeshrug:

However, once we hit that debt ceiling limit and it needs to be raised, I expect nothing short of pure fukking chaos this year...

You can't have a non-functioning congress dominating headlines and potentially causing political unrest among the American citizens for the next couple of months.

After years of disfunction in the government, the country can't take this too.

I dont think many ppl realize how democracy is currently hanging on by a string. We're headed in the right direction. But we're still in dangerous territory.

If you look at this in its totality, it's nothing more than a small coup within the GOP by radical renegades. This shyt doesn't affect the country at all. At best it rattles Wall Street.

There is no political unrest with American citizens and there won't be any. The only political unrest we have is right there on Capitol Hill amongst a dysfunctional Republican party.

This shyt will all be over by tomorrow anyway...

Hot takes from coli brehs who know nothing about politics yet again.

Right now the entire reason the GOP is in their current situation is because the Democrats are standing as a united block and refusing to budge. They are all voting in unison for Hakeem Jeffries. If the democrats were not united right now, McCarthy would have become speaker yesterday.

It's the Republicans who don't understand the power of leverage. Democrats are holding out until they get what they want. And right now they are making a play for joint control of the house.

And if any democrat breaks rank, McCarthy would win. But they are all refusing to budge.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of how these things work breh. There's no bipartisanship in leadership races. Party with the majority isn't going to give the minority power anything because no candidate for speaker is going to rely on votes from the opposing party.

As far as political understanding, I can assure you I've forgotten more than you'll ever know.

One chamber still writing bills?
That's not how Congress works, breh. :dead:
You know you need both chambers to govern right?
he said they can write them, nothin about passing them.
Actually the first poster is not completely wrong, because it is not like the House of Representatives are going to do any actual legislating with fools like Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Green, Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz, Santos and nem in charge. The first thing those fools intend to do is open countless investigations and then shut down the government.

Dummy. I mean the Congress isn’t paralyzed. There will still have legislation being written while the House gets its crap together. Once the pressure builds up to get back to work to finalize these bills, someone will have to fold.

The same thing happened when the government shut down happened in the Senate. The House still wrote the funding bills until the Senate stopped acting like idiots

What exactly is being gained by taking 3 votes a day with predetermined outcomes? 4 days of votes isn’t going to make those 20 fold.

He won't because it's his lifelong goal to become Speaker. All the political analysts and insiders have said that becoming Speaker was all McCarthy has ever cared about. He'll do anything, say anything to anyone, sell his soul, turn on people if it's in his best interest to become Speaker (Turned on Trump after January 6th when he thought it was in his best interest, exposed for secretly wanting these MAGA twitter accounts banned, then went crawling back to Trump one month later when he thought he needed Trump's support to become Speaker, then turned on Liz Cheney, who is anti-Trump and got her kicked out of Republican leadership when she was the 3rd highest ranking House Republican). That's why he's seen as phony and not genuine by everybody. Democrats and the MAGA people who consider him " the establishment" aka the enemy.

He does have votes from some of the crazy MAGA people such as Marjorie Taylor Greene, but that's because she knows that if he's elected Speaker, she will be able to make him her bytch. He already caved to a lot of her demands and she's expected to be put on the Oversight Committee, where she can investigate the Biden administration and make a shyt show & circus of every Oversight hearing.

He tried to become Speaker last time in 2015. He was considered the favorite and had to drop out because the House Freedom Caucus, (which was basically the "MAGA before MAGA" obstructionist trash that killed a lot of bi-partisan legislation during the Obama years) wouldn't support him. That's how Paul Ryan became Speaker.

If he drops out again, it's over permanently.

Even if he comes Speaker, he'll be the weakest Speaker in recent history. He already caved and gave them a rule change that would allow any group of 5 members to call for a full vote to remove the Speaker. He'll be walking on eggshells and will be letting the extremists/MAGA/arsonists run the show out of fear. They don't want to govern and help pass laws. They are wannabe reality TV show people that just want to scream loudly at everything, get interviews on Fox News, and want to burn the country down.

You explained the reasoning behind this shyt show better than all these worthless talking heads on TV.
