Oakland has never been a premier market for stars. Which is why we had to overpay for David Lee and Iggy, we got lucky with Curry and them Mr. Glass ankles which is why he's on such a great deal. Who is the last marquee player that actually came to Oakland instead of leaving? Until recently we were a training ground for all-stars.
We didn't overpay for Iggy. He could've got more in Denver and Sacramento. We gave Lee 6 years 80 million. Carlos Boozer got 5 years 80 million that same summer and he went to Chicago which is a pretty good market. So they overpaid, not us.

The Warriors have no incentive to give him that deal now.

If he won't take less then you wait it out thru restricted free agency

Restricted agents don't always get the crazy deals they expect, look at how it's fukked over Pekovic, Bledsoe, and Monroe all over the past 2 years.
Pek got $60 mil and a 5th year. He won.

Bledsoe wasn't getting the max regardless, Monroe doesn't play defense so he wasn't getting cashed out like he thought he should. I don't know why Pekovic wasn't coveted but Klay is an elite shooter and elite defender. How many players in the league are elite at shooting and defense? Dude is rare and will get the max.
Pek wasn't coveted because everyone knew we'd pay him. Offering him anything reasonably lower would have only did Minny a favor.

Just pay Klay already. He's a DuffSet representative. He's gonna get paid either now or later. If it's a 5th year he's looking for, that's another story.

We're going to pay him. No reason to do it before we have to tho.

Klay Thompson is asking for a max contract and deserving of such an extension from the Warriors, according to his father, Mychal Thompson.
“He’s going to get paid, but the question is how much is he going to get paid?”
Mychal said Monday on the ESPN LA radio show he co-hosts. “You think he’s going to get the max? That’s what he’s asking for.”
Mychal noted that the player the Warriors did not trade Klay for in the offseason, Kevin Love, would have gotten a super max contract from Golden State.
Klay’s father also indicated Friday he agreed that after Utah’s Gordon Hayward got a max contract, so should his son.
“I think he is (a max player), but of course, I’m his dad,” Mychal said. “You know what, though? If he wasn’t, I would say it. I can be honest about it.
“I think he is. I really do. His game’s really evolving, getting better, and he really puts in the work, got a great work ethic. And he’s the kind of guy that you can trust. You know when you give him the money, he’s not going to stop working hard.”
The Warriors have until Oct. 31 to agree to a contract extension on Thompson’s rookie-scale contract or watch the player they drafted become a restricted free agent next summer. Both co-owner Joe Lacob and general manager Bob Myers have expressed their desire to re-sign Thompson, though they must weigh how much to give the 24-year-old given salary cap and luxury tax implicatio
Mychal sees a bright future for Klay with the Warriors this season.
“I’ve said it to Klay and other Warriors players: I think 1 through 12 they’ve got the deepest roster in the league,” Mychal said. “I told Klay, ‘You’re now a world champion (from the FIBA World Cup). Now it’s time to become an NBA champion.
“And I think they have the capabilities of doing it. They’re right there. Everybody talks about the Spurs and Thunder when (Kevin) Durant’s healthy, and of course, the Clippers, who are loaded too. But I don’t see the Warriors taking a back step to anybody.”
Mychal, a Lakers commentator and NBA champion as a player with the team, also indicated he wouldn’t mind Klay ending up in Los Angeles once Kobe Bryant retires.
“I’m kind of hoping, well, maybe another two guard will be down here pretty soon,” Mychal said. “I’m just thinking out loud.”

TYRONE GA!
Cap raising may not be a good thing after all

19? :mjlol:

Someone will cut him that check tho

Dude gonna make 5 million more then curry

Let him him restricted free agency then. Let other teams decide his ceiling and match it if you are the Warriors. They're gonna have to give Steph a big raise when the new deal/lockout happens in 2 years and the cap will definitely be higher then. Win Win.

:heh:
Klay is to one dimensional and heavily reliant on Curry beating double teams and finding him open in the corner. If his shot isn't going in he disappears and his defense is to hyped up. Curry has a lot of respect and guys wanna play with him, I wouldn't wanna waste a max contract on a spot up shooter. Your not winning a title with Klay as your second best player let him hit restricted free agency than way your options.
