They can split that cap hit between this year and next, same thing Denver did with the 85m dead money from cutting Russ.

It's not a crazy scenario if the compensation is worth it and Cohen doesn't think Trevor will ever beat the big dumb QB allegations. Bigger issue is there's no Hurts in the building to give the keys to like when the Eagles made their pivot off Wentz. Rams flipped Goff but got Stafford in return, it's hard to go this route when you're in the dark about exactly who the next QB is.

What return are you talking about? Like Eagles got for Wentz type of return? Seems unlikely.

And how you know Coen gave up on Lawrence? He took the job knowing itd be Lawrence.

edit: I misread what you wrote. You said "If". My bad.

Yea. That move doesn't make sense for either team. The Jaguars committed to Lawrence when they paid him that insane contract and if I am the Steelers, I think Justin Fields has shown enough to be a developmental prospect in Pittsburgh, but they also need to tweak the offense to make the most of his athleticism.

This doesn't say as much about Trevor Lawrence as it says about Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

Some of us (certainly ME) had a ton of doubts about the Steelers' quarterback situation heading into last season and we were mostly called haters.
Well, I told you.

Pittsburgh cannot be a serious contender when they have two quarterbacks who cannot throw the football down the field reliably.
They won much of their games on the ground, and when that stalled, they had nothing.

The kids call this "exposed"

I watched some of the steelers play last season and the QB position is the least of their problems.
-Offensive line(tackles were 1 and 2 in sacks given up....there was a game where they both pulled.....in opposite directions:why:)

-Playcalling is questionable. 1st Cincy game they put up 40+ throwing it all over the place in a W. 2nd game they try to run it repeatedly for some reason and take an L. A report came out last week about Arthur Smith being pissed about Russ changing the plays at the line in the 1st Cincy game:why:

-WR room is subpar. D-line needs youth/talent

Did you see Jalen Hurts as a guy you could win a SB with recently? Fields has a similar game and PHI just showed us that you can win with that arch-type of QB

Itā€™s funny how Sam Darnold was the THIRD pick, and was pretty mediocre and even showed regression to the point he was let go and ended up on two different teams before landing with a QB friendly team in Minnesota. He has one good season (year 7) and now everyone is salivating over him.

Justin Fields had a horrible rookie season, but his second season was better despite his record and not having a single offensive weapon of note. Third season was even better than that, and after being let go from the Bears, he starts 4-2 with the Steelers. All I know is he almost broke the QB rushing record in year 2, and he does have a good deep ball. So after 4 seasons, he canā€™t be given a chance at all?
To keep it real I think a lot of former qbs see themselves in dudes like darnold, Allen, burrow, Trevor etc.

They gon speak highly of them off gp, just be a decent sized white dude who throws a ā€œprettyā€ ball and them dudes gon fight for you in media, especially them dudes who careers really ainā€™t go nowhere

Just so we're clear here:

You see parallels between the Eagles and Steelers?
You think Jalen Hurts is merely some souped up Justin Fields?

I'm not sure we are watching the same games.

What parallels? Iā€™m not gonna say Fields is better than Hurts because Hurts has had success and ultimately won it all. What I will say is Hurts has a WAY better offensive line than Fields ever had. Hurts receiving corps is better than the best receiver Fields had over his career. Then the Eagles got Saquon whoā€™s WAY better than any running back Fields ever played with.

So what am I supposed to take away from this?

That Justin Fields is still somehow a salvage-able quarterback?
Because I don't agree. At all.

Sam Darnold wasnā€™t salvageable until he got a chance in Minnesota. Only reason he even started is because JJ McCarthy went out for the season.
