The 1st generation of any immigrant group to the US is special. We’ll see how Mexican-Americans fare in a few generations, but I’m positive on their outlook in part because the antagonism they’re getting now is going to / should lead to rejection of the worst parts of modern American, white culture.
They also seem to keep their language pretty well (which is extremely important - why conquerors in history have threatened violence to folks that speak their mother tongue for example) but we’ll see how that goes.

You have good points but once again I see people complaining native Blacks to immigrants just because they are a minority. We have many problems we need to handle but pretending we, or any long term in America group, will act like immigrants is not really helpful since Black people have no reason to adopt an immigrant mentality en masse no more than White people do.
Immigrants typically have good work and family values because the trifling and lazy people in their country don't get on a plane or try to jump the border unless they are war refugees. The amount of risk and money it takes to get in the US legally or illegally these days selects a certain type of person. Mexicans who don't give a shyt and want to gang bang mostly stay home and fight that drug war (though obviously there are a lot of Mexican cartels here too). Black people, good and bad, are born here by default. The prosperous and hard working among us get lumped with our lazy. If Blacks from our top 20% emigrated anywhere else, trust me we would probably be a model immigrant too.

Butler and even Thomas Sowell's work on Black immigration in the early 1980s before he went on his Black always is inferior bent. They show Black internal immigrants (the Great Migration) acted pretty much like the immigrants we are compared to today, especially in having vibrant business communities and stable families in places like Durham, NC, Tulsa, among others.
Every ethnic group (I mean just about every one) after 2-3 generations reverts to the American mean unless they have a reason for being apart (i.e. Jews). How many White folks or third generation Hispanics do you see running gas stations? Also, Hispanic immigrants have low crime rates but after second generation it jumps to between Blacks and Whites if they are below poverty/working class background.
While they do work hard I have a problem with the stereotype since multiple studies indicate young Blacks (regardless of work ethic) get shafted in manual labor jobs because of the perception that immigrants are harder working, more pliable, and of course, cheaper so it "justifies" discrimination against Blacks in the labor market. Let's also not forget a lot of these jobs they are doing were done by us until the illegal immigration gave a low wage alternative. The greatest Black economic mobility in our history from roughly 1920 - 1970 occurred when foreign immigration was at its lowest ebb in history due to World Wars and laws. I am not saying us vs. Hispanics is zero sum but our economic opportunities in unskilled labor are definitely impacted.

All foreign groups eventually surpass AA's because they come with entrepreneurial dreams and open basic low skill small businesses like corner stores or small workshops whether they have a college degree or not. This is the primary difference. We wait for fukking sand cacs, Paki's and Indians to infiltrate our communities and set up shop.
