So the average 18/19 year old black high school graduate is planning to go into union construction trades or become a machine operator at a factory ?:what:

I’m 19, 2nd year union laborer apprentice. Outta all the nikkas I went to school with or knew from the hood maybe two other nikkas went straight into construction or blue collar jobs(one nikka work for Amtrak).

I’ve went back to my old high school on several occasions to talk bout union trade apprenticeships , kids looking at me like :merchant: when I talk bout unions and how much bread really out there.

Yes I’ve worked on some projects outside of the Chicago metro area where I get some :mjpls: looks from cacs. All in all it’s much better than it was 30 years ago. My pops was a union tradesman for 34 years. He said back in the day cac foremans use to straight up say “I don’t want no nikkas on my crew” and sent brothas home while cacs were raking in stupid money.

The average 18/19 year old among all races nowawadays ain't so focused on becoming that, unless he has to.

Here in AZ, Mexicans r the same. Only time they ain't is if they going into family business involving that. Which leads into them having connections in that field. And a assortment of things I don't feel like going into:sas2:.

Yes there r nikkas who look down on it. But there r blacks who also r willing to do that either cause they always wanted to. Or lack of choices.

Breh...my family’s church does redevelopment work in Washington Park. They do both renovations and new construction. One of the Priest got one of the guys in the parish a union construction gig with one of the contractors that work with us. Was talking with him about a year ago and with the overtime he put in, breh raked in over $120k. High School diploma, no prior experience. I work in Finance and was legit salty cause breh made almost as much as me a few years out of college. Whole time I was looking like....

He did say that his body was paying for it though. Point is, you can make some good money working in the trades and I try to talk to as many black men about carving out a life for themselves by picking one up.
